Chapter 379: Shocking Information

After reviewing the file, Yao Ran placed it back on the table and asked, "Are you certain that the names on this list have ties to The Ark?"

Yuan Rihui nodded. "Yes. I investigated each of them before giving you their names."

Noting Yao Ran and Long Yu's gloomy expressions, Yuan Rihui added, "I know it's hard to believe, but the information is accurate. Du Zhaoyi is a member of The Ark, and half of the senior officers in this base have connections to it."

Hearing this, Long Yu turned to Yao Ran and said, "Ran Ran, we should cease all transactions with the Second Army. Du Zhaoyi is their commander, and with his ties to The Ark, it's too dangerous for you to stay in contact with him."

Yao Ran nodded in agreement. He paused and added, "I'm just worried about the soldiers in the Second Army."

Thinking about what she said, Long Yu asked, "Brother Yuan, can you identify which soldiers are connected to The Ark?"

After a moment of thought, Yuan Rihui replied, "It's possible, but the Second Army has over sixty thousand soldiers. Investigating them all would require significant time and resources." Since identifying specific soldiers was unfeasible, they needed to explore other options.

After some thought, Yao Ran asked, "Brother Yuan, do you know how the Second Army gets its supplies?"

Yuan Rihui nodded and said, "I've heard their main source of supplies is the First Army's warehouse."

"From the First Army's warehouse? What do you mean?" Yao Ran asked again.

Yuan Rihui explained, "Du Zhaoyi uses his position as the Second Army's commander to demand military funds from Commander Xu, claiming that the Second Army is responsible for the base's security, so they have the right to get the supplies."

"Isn't that standard practice in the army?" Yao Ran asked, confused by what he said.

"It is," Yuan Rihui admitted. "But the First Army is the one searching for supplies, while Du Zhaoyi prohibits Second Army soldiers from assisting them."

He paused before adding, "I believe Du Zhaoyi's real goal is to weaken the power and influence of the First Army and not just to secure supplies for the Second Army."

Listening to his words, Yao Ran lowered her eyes and thought, 'I never expected Du Zhaoyi to actually be a member of The Ark. Things are getting tricky now. It seems I need to adjust my plans with this new discovery.'

After reflecting for a moment, Yao Ran raised her eyes to look at Yuan Rihui and said, "Brother Yuan, I need a favor from you."

Raising his eyebrows at her words, Yuan Rihui chuckled and replied, "Miss Yao, with our relationship, there is no need to be so formal. Just tell me what you need, and I will help you as long as it is within my ability."

Yao Ran smiled and said, "I need you to assist Chen Zizhen in gathering and recruiting more ability users the more, the better. I will provide the two of you with the deformation medicine. You can use it to attract and recruit ability users."

When Yuan Rihui heard this, he was surprised. Coming back to his senses, he asked, "Miss Yao, are you planning to build a base?"

Yao Ran shook her head, "No. Building a base requires too many supplies and too much time. What I want is for Chen Zizhen to establish a team of mercenaries on my behalf."

After hearing her explanation, Yuan Rihui asked, "Miss Yao, do you intend for Chen Zizhen to lead this mercenary group?"

Yao Ran nodded and elaborated, "You know I'm investigating The Ark. I need to stay out of the spotlight until I'm strong enough to oppose them directly."

From her words, Yuan Rihui realized that Yao Ran not only intended to investigate The Ark but actually planned to confront them. The thought sent chills down his spine.

He glanced at Yao Ran and Long Yu, thinking, 'Oh my God. What have I gotten myself into? Is it still possible to get out of this murky water?'

Unaware that her words had terrified Yuan Rihui, Yao Ran continued, "Brother Yuan, I can't completely trust Chen Zizhen yet, so I hope you can help me manage the mercenary group alongside him. If you agree, I will compensate you for your service."

Realizing he might not be able to extricate himself from this situation, Yuan Rihui gritted his teeth and made a decision.

He looked Yao Ran in the eyes and said, "Alright. You don't need to pay for my service, but in exchange, I want to join your team."

The moment he said this, Long Yu glanced at Yao Ran and noticed a faint curve at the corner of her lips.

He then turned back to Yuan Rihui with a look of pity and thought, 'He's been sold and is still helping Ran Ran count the money. I don't know how he will react when he finds out that everything that happened up to now is part of Ran Ran's plan.'

Yao Ran pretended to consider Yuan Rihui's request for a moment before replying, "Alright. Since Brother Yuan insists, I will accept your terms."

She then extended her hand and added, "Welcome to the team, Brother Yuan."

Reaching out to shake her hand, Yuan Rihui smiled, clearly in a good mood. "Thank you. I will do my best for our team."

Now that they had reached an agreement, Yuan Rihui stood up and said, "I will head back to inform my elder cousin about our arrangement and visit you again later."

"Alright. Remember to bring a space ability user for easier transportation," Yao Ran reminded him as she walked him out.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Understood," Yuan Rihui replied.

After Yuan Rihui left, Long Yu asked, "Ran Ran, what is your next plan?"

Yao Ran thought for a moment before responding, "Since we can't leave this place at this moment, I plan to make the most of our time by recruiting as many ability users as we can."
