Chapter 117 Entrance Scaling Exams (4)
"Kekekekeke…"
"Ah… so it was a shaman. I got all worried for nothing," I smiled back at the green monster grinning from ear to ear. Its rotten teeth left a stench in the room, and its overwhelming presence had already been tripled through its extremely powerful buffs.
The Goblin Shaman doesn't sound too powerful in general. I mean, it's just a goblin, right? How could a mere goblin be powerful at all? But no, there was only one Goblin that surpassed even the Goblin Lord… and that was the Goblin Shaman.
The monster grew in size, its warted nose twitching upwards as its entire body distorted into something different. It was now as big as the troll, and with muscles ten times the size of its original body and its staff growing to match the monster's power, it had matched part of the power of its creator.
"The Goblin God. But, it's unfortunate that you went up against me," I licked my lips at the sight of all the foreign mana swirling around the goblin's body. This was its source of indescribable power… and it was something so easily manipulatable for a being like me.
[Foreign Mana Control]
I had run into a wall. As I gripped the goblin's mana, I soon came to the realization that this control over mana went hand in hand with my magic stat. Without a high magic stat, this skill was practically useless. I was forced to deactivate the skills I had just activated, which were revving up. They were about to show me their powerful grace, yet, in the end, I was unable to see them.
CRACK
I felt my eyes strain in their sockets. Blood dripped from them like a waterfall of iron. My nose was gushing blood from each nostril whilst I couldn't help but open my mouth to cough up a massive amount of blood.
Raising both of my hands, I gripped the air, allowing me to maintain a tighter grip on the shaman who felt my struggle against its powerful presence. It fought back, releasing an even more powerful aura of mana that felt as if it was about to tear me apart.
Blood poured from ears that had already been deafened. But now the shaman was struggling even more, its own mana collapsing into its bulging muscles. Its brazen staff with three jangling rings immediately snapped in half, causing the shaman to realize just how much of a pickle he was in.
"Urgh… fuck…" I coughed up an even larger pool of blood. For a split second, I considered surrendering, but I was already too far in. So, I pushed my body to its limit, no matter how much I began to bleed and stain the white tiles below.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
All of a sudden, a ringing began to echo in my shattered ears. I wasn't supposed to be able to hear anything, but for some reason, those monotonous and horribly screeching beeps still echoed through my broken eardrums. It was painful and shook my mind to the very core. It felt as if my brain was bouncing around in my skull just from the sound.
[Gods watch on incredible feat]
[A few gods smile with interest]
[A few gods wonder how this event will turn out]
[You have completed the Hidden Quest: Injure a being ten times stronger than you]
[Reward has been granted]
"Fuck…" I muttered, feeling my mind slip and my skill completely deactivate as my mana disappeared from my status. It had been sapped instantly from my gauge, causing not only my mana to fall to zero but also my stamina to collapse in on itself and begin to fall rapidly.
[HP: 42/50 MP: 0/30 SP: 2/15] - Normal Human
"Tch…" I clicked my tongue as the beast escaped from my grasp and immediately began charging toward me. Provoked by the injuries I had dished out towards its arms and legs, it became enraged. But, just before it could crush me with its massive fist, it poofed away into blue dust, particles of mana flying through the white wall. "Dammit… I could have killed that fucking thing."
Slowly, I began to feel my injuries healed by a nearby healer. The test was now over, and the walls behind me had opened up. But, this event had enraged me to the point I had trouble suppressing my bloodlust. I probably could have acquired a reward better than what the hidden quest had rewarded me with.
[Empowerment of The Giants]. A skill I had just acquired from the hidden quest. I had never heard of or seen this skill before, but I could assume what it did. Most likely a physical buff that will allow me to deal more damage with my weapons or even my physical body. Although, I wasn't really happy about it since my nerves had been ticked off.
As I stepped back into the auditorium, I noticed all of the kids who were watching me before looked at me with nervous glares. They almost seemed to be mad that I was so much more powerful than them, but also nervous at the fact that they were going to have to a beast who managed to kill a low A-rank monster and injure a high A-rank Monster.
"Seal… don't be mad. You'll get it next time," Asger said, hugging me as I approached my siblings. Mari was uncaring as always when it came to my status, and Petra seemed a bit worried but didn't say much.
"*sigh*... Whatever. This is just a minor fight anyways," I attempted to console myself while sitting down with the rest of my group. But, I still couldn't itch away the fact that I was unable to even kill that thing with [Foreign Mana Control]. This skill was so broken that I shouldn't have struggled in the first place. "Urghhhh… FUCK!"
"Please settle down, kids. Testing is done for today, and you all are excused from afternoon classes. You may attend them if you would like, but I recommend resting for tomorrow as it will be the practical test. DISMISSED!"
Everybody soon exited the auditorium, and seeing how my siblings were quite exhausted, we decided to head back to our dorm.
"*sigh*... At least I can finally fucking rest…." I groaned.
…
(Evelyn POV)
Biting my nails and nearly tearing them off my fingers, I stared down at the ground. As I sat on the edge of my bed, I attempted to brainstorm any other possible way for me to win against that monster. I thought I was somebody impressive, but compared to the first rank, I was nothing more than an ant.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
"He actually managed to challenge a Goblin Shaman… A Goblin Shaman?!" I screamed, grabbing my pillow and throwing it down onto the ground. My voice echoed across my single-bed dorm room.
I had paid an excruciating amount of money just to obtain this place, but if I wasn't able to obtain first place, then what was the point? Why even treat myself if I can't even get first place against a Claydol…
"Dammit… I need to recruit more people. Not just the top 20 but the entire grade. I must have them under my control. Only then will I comfortably have a spot as number 1…" I muttered to myself, my nails beginning to bleed as they slowly shifted off of my fingers.
Quickly, I exited my room and contacted all of the top twenty, making sure they were to spread the word. I needed to spread rumors. I need to spread as many rumors as possible just so I can get everybody on my side.
And then tomorrow, I will bribe them. It will be a win-win for them, so there is no way they won't decline me. The only possible things that could get in my way from the point would be the remaining four who are stuck by Cyrus.
"I'm so useless…" I groaned once again before turning to my class. And there, I found one of the seniors I looked up to. With their help, spreading rumors would be so much easier and way more reliable than those top twenty dipshits.
"Oh? I thought you had testing today?" The girl with long black hair and eyes that had been scarred horribly. She immediately sensed me as I sat next to her, and while ignoring the teacher, I whispered into her ear.
"Seeing how you're a freshman in high school, people in the lower classes will listen to you, right? You've done it with people in your grade, so you should be able to do it with some in my grade, right?"
"Hmmm… Yeah, I suppose. So, who is the unlucky boy who caught your attention now?"
"No, it's not about boys- well, it sort of is. There's this kid named Cyrus in my grade, and he is the rank one. I need you to spread a few rumors about him so I can get everybody else in the grade on my side."
"Cyrus, huh?" The girl lightly chuckled. "Well, isn't this interesting… I didn't even realize he was three years younger than me." Explore hidden tales at empire
