This Childhood Sweetheart is a Little Sweet

Chapter 34

Chapter 34

Jiang Wei did not have the habit of sneaking a peek at Yi Ming's phone, although 80% of the time when Yi Ming's phone rang, it was one of his various "admirers".

"Yi Ming, your phone is ringing."

As Jiang Wei picked up Yi Ming's phone and walked towards the bathroom, her hand slipped and the phone dropped onto the floor.

Fortunately, there was a small rug in the middle of the living room, so the phone was unharmed and the incoming call screen kept flashing, showing an unknown number without a contact name.

"Who's this, calling so late?"

Yi Ming's impatient voice came from inside the bathroom, then the sliding door swooshed open. "Help me get it, my hands are full of soap bubbles."

Yi Ming stood in place, raising his hands that were surrounded by foam.

Jiang Wei was taken aback for a moment. She hesitated.

What if it was a girl on the other end? What should she say?

That carefree guy had already squatted down to continue shining his shoes. Jiang Wei frowned slightly, helpless that she had to answer the call.

"Hello?"

She tried to make her voice as gentle as possible.

"Hello?"

This was probably Murphy's Law - Jiang Wei prayed thousands of times, hoping desperately that it wasn't some girl who admired Yi Ming. But sure enough, what one fears most comes true. As soon as the girl heard a woman's voice, her tone changed instantly.

"Who are you? Why do you have Yi Ming's phone?"

Jiang Wei was stunned by her question.

"Oh...I...um..."

Jiang Wei stood in place, stuttering an answer.

"She's my wife. Who are you?"

Yi Ming didn't know when he had finished washing his hands and came out. Seeing Jiang Wei standing there at a loss, he was both angry and amused.

This girl, could she never be more assertive?

"Yi Ming!"

Jiang Wei whispered angrily at him.

Seeing that he could take the call himself now, Jiang Wei quickly shoved the phone at him.

"What do you want...?" Yi Ming took the call and lazily sprawled out on the sofa, stretching his long legs onto the floor. "If you don't have anything to say, I'm hanging up."

Yi Ming looked every bit like an indifferent playboy. Jiang Wei pursed her lips slightly. She really felt sorry for these girls.

In others' eyes, Yi Ming was like an iceberg - lifeless, seeming to have no interest in anything except the medical profession he had chosen and cycling. Everything else was like flavorless seasoning to him, he never thought any of it had meaning.

"Yi Ming..."

The voice on the phone suddenly became gentle. "You...haven't gone to bed yet?"

"Not yet, but soon."

Yi Ming picked up an apple from the coffee table and took a bite. The apple was very crispy but not sweet. He frowned slightly, swallowing it down impatiently. "Qi Nian, just tell me what you want."

Yi Ming had recognized the voice on the other end of the call from the beginning.

Qi Nian was a student at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department at D University.

She had helped a professor carry documents when she met Yi Ming, who happened to be at the hospital assisting a professor as well. It was just a fleeting encounter, but the girl's heart was captivated in an instant.

She had tried adding Yi Ming's WeChat, but he did not accept. She found out Yi Ming's number through connections and had gathered the courage to call him before, but Yi Ming barely had any memory of her.

A few days ago, she directly stopped Yi Ming on campus.

"Yi Ming, stop right there."

She mustered her courage and stood in his way, eyes flashing with panic but still stubborn.

"Why do you keep everyone at arm's length? We're alumni after all. I won't bite, why do you have to be so cold?"

Yi Ming stopped in his tracks, looking down at her. His gaze was calm without ripples, utterly aloof.

Qi Nian thought Yi Ming would get angry or yell at her, or maybe have a nice chat. But what caught her completely off guard was...

He simply took a step back without saying a word, turned around, and left...
