The Rejected Alpha's Vengeance

Chapter 415 The Heat of A Thousand Fires

[HAWI]

Staring at the long staircase, Hawi contemplated whether this was going to be worth it or not. She couldn't remember the last time she had faced this many challenges in one go.

Granted, she already knew that she was special, but then each chapter of her special ability was taking her further from home. Hawi had only ever wanted to clear her name and go back to Sicario.

It wasn't supposed to be this hard and complicated. No one had told her of the chaos she would have to deal with and frankly even as she stared at the one hundred and first step, she wondered if this was the best way for her.

Sure, they had come long way, but did they'd have to keep this going?

"You don't have to keep going, Mistress," Malika said, the earnesty in her voice clear, there was a sign that this was a test for Hawi or anything she was being truthful with her, but what were the chances that she was just doing her job by being the protector of the realm?

As a protector and a powerful one, Malika knew she had to be ready for anything that meant a lot to the realm. If Hawi didn't go up those stairs then she was useless to the realm.

She wouldn't be worth the gifts that would come, especially since the damned stairs were the determinant of the roads she would take.

If Hawi went down from here, Malika would have no choice but to go to Olyana and report that the woman they had trusted had managed to fail spectacularly and that they needed to start preparing for another white wolf.

That would also mean that they would have to figure out ways of eliminating Hawi. It was unexpected, but it was what they needed to do. The truth was never going to be easy to deal with, after all this was never just about the two of them.

This was about the entire realm that had suffered at the hands of the Russels. There was no changing that simple fact if they were going to have a weakling for a white wolf.

"Well, thank goodness," Ruru said in relief as she plopped on the steps.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

She hadn't eaten shit for the longest time, and these damned stairs had taken up most of her energy. She had always been strong, but even she wasn't sure if then was the kind of mission that they had to see through. Experience more on empire

Besides, there was no telling whether the Russels were here in the temple or if they had just faked it all to get Hawi to the side of the realm. The worst part of this all was that the weather was changing and it wasn't pretty.

"The temperatures will get worse if we continue anyway. As it is, stepping down the stairs gets us to cooler temperatures and if we keep moving, we might even get boiled in the sun," Malika sighed as she sat on the hundred-and-second step.

Ruru was on the one below her and Hawi was still standing on the hundredth step. She was the determinant of how all of this would turn out.

Malika knew that, but she wouldn't tell it to Hawi because they would beat the purpose of making sure the supernatural realm had the best protector other than Malika herself.

"Woahh, you're right. The hundredth step is cooler than the one I'm on. I bet we can go back home then. Her and he rest will get their karma someday. It shouldn't be that hard, right?" Ruru asked with excitement in her voice.

She wasn't sure what the hell was going on but she was starting to think that all of this was just some shit show they had been forced to take part in because The entire realm had crazed psychos running around.

If they had Hawi as the realm's protector then it would be easier because this woman scared even the devil himself. Was that the basis for all of this?

"Mistress, should we go back?" Malika asked hopefully as she looked at Hawi. She could see the wheels in the woman's head turning and while the protector wasn't sure of what to expect, she hoped Hawi made the right choice.

If she was being honest with herself, Malika loved the woman Hawi was. She loved how fiercely Hawi had fought to make things right for people she even and even those she didn't know.

She hadn't wanted to be the werewolf queen but Hawi had made decisions that benefited the entire realm.

Of course, if asked she would simply argue that she didn't want to see people suffering because of the damn bastards who put her through hell and back, but deep down, she down that it was because Hawi cared.

She knew there were people who needed to live and had things to live for, people who woke up and hoped the day would be good. Hawi had seen them one too many times and that was the kind of drive that was keeping Hawi going.

Malika hoped that on that day, there wouldn't be any difference.

There was a lot that they would end to work through but none would be more pressing than the fact that life had been shitty and they had been able to saddle through, without a lot of casualties, thanks to Awuor Hawi.

"Are you guys tired?" Hawi asked as she stared into Malika's eyes. It was like she was looking into Malika's soul, but was that it or was Hawi just trying to make everything make sense for them all.

She was trying to determine whether this was something that they needed to do or if this was just a silly adventure that they were on because they couldn't figure out where the fuck the Russels were, and a part of them was hoping that the crazes were somewhere in this goddamn island?

"I know I am. But if you want us to keep going, then we can keep at it," Malika stated as she looked up the damned stairs.

She hated these stairsteps with all of her.

They were the worst part of her job, since she was asked to go up there, she would be able to reach the last step in just three days. It wasn't a lot of work for her, but then the woman she was with had to make that decision for the both of them.

It didn't matter what color the sky was if they decided on doing whatever, because that was what would make it better or make the mission a waste of time.

"Girl, we have been at this for a while now. The weather makes me feel like my brains don't deserve the slightest bit of sanity. I miss my bed, in all the honesty I can muster at the moment," Ruru let out with a whine as she looked at Malika as if to ask Malika to tell Hawi that this wasn't the kind of shit for them.

They had hopes, hoped that Hawi would have mercy on their feeble souls and make them run back. Hawi looked at her team and she knew what she needed to do.

"Get up, we're leaving," Hawi said as she looked at the stairsteps behind them.
