Chapter 42: Divine Intervention

Chapter 42: Divine Intervention

There is something which occurred as soon as Zeke began the transport. Time felt like it stood still and, before he knew it, a familiar feeling enveloped him. One that felt oddly similar to his experience after clearing [Trial Island].

"I have a bad feeling about this." Were the words that came to Zeke's mind as the blinding flash of light enclosed him. Soon after, he reappeared on a place that he recognized and, before he could even prove his assumptions, someone already came in front of him, floating in mid-air.

"Hey there mister." Chrono said with a wide grin in his face.

"What is it now?" Zeke said as the three faced him again.

As soon as the transport began, the three major deities took Zeke away. Chrono aided in the situation by stopping time itself and, due to this, Zeke will come back to where he left off without having spent a single second. Chrono didn't like doing things as stopping time because it tires him out but, since the situation needed it, all he could do is comply.

"There are matters which we wish to discuss with you." Nisha said, walking alongside Sinclair who still looked at Zeke with disgust.

The three proceeded to a table, with a single seat left empty. Nisha offered Zeke to come and sit with them, one which he accepted.

"I'm guessing that this is nowhere near a happy reunion correct?" Zeke began.

"Whoooahhh hold your horses there. We'll be the ones explaining stuff, so you just sit there and listen okay?" Sinclair replied.

At this, Zeke folded his arms as Nisha began speaking. As mentioned, the gods and goddesses cannot make direct interventions in the realms which they create. However, they can send humans to these realms. People such as Zeke are then tasked to resolve major issues on those realms.

Nisha began with the current state of things. She pointed at Chrono who chose to float in the air; saying that the particular god saw something happen in the near future.

"An all-out war will break out in Mythos." Nisha said with a serious look on her face.

Zeke wondered why they put so much effort into maintaining the balance in the worlds.

"It's not like letting us survive benefits them in any way." Zeke thought to himself and, as this crossed his mind, Nisha continued speaking.

"We are glad that Aeolus has been taken down before the position of a ruler consumed him entirely. However, a greater threat rose from where he left off."

"Gallio?" Zeke asked, making Nisha nod before she continued.

"Even before we sent you on that mission, we are already aware of the existence of Gallio. However, since the future Chrono initially saw did not involve that man, there was no use in adding him to the objectives."

"But now things have gone from bad to worse, is that right?" Zeke said, feeling burdened with how things are going.

"Yes. With the rise of Gallio, a war will begin. One which is on a larger and more devastating scale than the Calamity War."

"This is such a drag." Zeke thought to himself. Initially, the goal was as he predicted. He only needed to defeat Aeolus and then, proceed to the next main task which is going to the [Ruined City].

However, as things currently stand, he knows that another set of missions would probably be added to the ones which he already has.

"The problem with this is that, we cannot disclose too much information to you. We can only intervene on a limited scale and, meeting you like this is one of the few options included." Sinclair said.

"It's fine. Things are simple actually. I only need to defeat Gallio to prevent the gears of war from starting correct?" Zeke said and, before the deities could continue., he added another thing.

"Oh, and I probably need to look for a decent ruler to fix whatever damage both kings have caused so far. Otherwise, Elysium might be left in a poor state."

"Wow mister, you're really smart." Chrono remarked.

"That's correct and, adding to this are issues which the other continents are facing. We know that it is much of a burden for a single mortal but, we also need you to go to the other continents as problems have also began rising on each of them." Nisha said, sounding as if she is apologetic for all the burdened they placed on Zeke.

*Sigh*

"Like I said the first time we met, I've got not say on this matter. You willingly made me an errand boy so, can you at least fix your tone." Zeke's irritation rose because of how Nisha delivered the words.

"You're a really rude mortal. We could just end you here you know." Sinclair said.

"And you are deities who've failed at properly programing the worlds you've created." He replied.

"Don't even think of threatening me with death. For all I care, you won't have any benefit in killing me right now. With all the things that needs to be done, I doubt you'd find anyone as capable as I am." Zeke sounded proud but, he knows that there is a truth to this.

If they could, the three major deities would've sent more than one person for this job. After all, things will probably be easier if there are more people working toward same goal. But that didn't happen. Zeke is all alone and, he knows what this means. It means that there are boundaries and limits to the summoning of humans. And for whatever reason this is, he is the only one available.

As usual, Chrono laughed at Zeke's words. He knows that this is true after all. However, Sinclair who wishes nothing else than total obedience and respect from mortals, wanted to teach Zeke a lesson. This is held back by Nisha who stayed calm and composed.

"For what it's worth, we did what we could on all the realms we've made. Unfortunately, we cannot control the variables once we've finished making a world. Everything is up to the fleeting lives that lives there whether it be for the good or the bad." Nisha said with tone that seemed more serious than earlier.

"Yes. But you've also made it a point that power is always sought after by any mortal. A fleeting life would always desire something that is beyond him or her. Now that I've confirmed the existence of beings like you. I understand that, we have this wanting because we've been made by entities who hold the power which we seek. It may not be directly your fault but, you hold a large portion of responsibility as to why things turn this way."

"Nisha are you sure he's not some kind of god like us?" Chrono said, wondering how Zeke could come to these conclusions.

The goddess of darkness didn't pay any mind to Chrono's words and proceeded to answering Zeke.

"Yes. That is correct and, that is also the reason why we send humans of great potential such as yourself."

"Can we also cut down on the flattery? The only reason I'm here is because you feel guilty from your own lack of foresight." As the discussion went on, the topic has completely changed. Zeke just wanted to give these deities a piece of his mind. He may not have a choice on the missions but, the least they could do is hear him out.

"I mean how does that even happen? You literally have a god who can look into the future." Zeke said as he pointed to the floating god of time and space.

"Oho. I'll answer this one. Ahem." Chrono said.

"You see, it's a bit complicate mister. While I do see things that have not yet occurred. It's in a kind of multiple routed road. I see all the possibilities but, in Mythos, all these possibilities lead to war. That's why we have you to intervene. An outside variable." Chrono said in an upbeat tone.

"Also, even if I do see them, it's not like there is anything we can do about it directly. Plus, I can't see worlds that do not yet exist. So that explains why we can't make a perfect world."

"The energy that runs the things we create is limited. As time comes, everything will fall back to the void into the darkness of oblivion. This limit causes all the imperfections you complain about." Sinclair added, already feeling a bit better.

Zeke let out a deep sigh as they finished explaining things. He didn't ask anything else nor did he offer any more comments. Zeke didn't want to drag things any more than it already is.

"Whatever, just give me the update on the missions and I'll be on my way."

At this, the notification of his system appeared before him. The words read:

[A main mission has been added.]

"If there's nothing else, we'll be sending you back now. It seems that Chrono feels a bit tired from pausing time this long."

Zeke is thus sent back to where he initially was, travelling into another dimension once more.
