Chapter 449 Next Mission
"There's nothing illegal we did, these two are clearly guilty." Boyd wouldn't let anyone tell him he was at fault and that he made a mistake. Explore more stories at empire
Saanvi's father looked at the commander and shook his head. Since he was the lawyer for Kismet Inc. they decided to hire him as a family lawyer as well. Mahindra Khan only agreed because of the wealth he could see from this family in the future.
"All the evidence you have is circumstantial at best. They happened to be at the same mountain the same time the mass murder was taking place, did you find weapons on them?" Mihandra asked the commander.
"Not exactly, but..."
Mihandra shook his head, "no buts sir commander. A crime took place today and it wasn't committed by my client." He spread his arms pointing to the different parts of the small room with blood spatter.
"We interrogated within legal means." Boyd maintained his stance but he was a little intimidated he didn't expect someone like Khan to show up here.
"We will see about that in the court of law. With the evidence of you torturing innocent people, I will sue this government bankrupt, mark my words commander." Mahindra made his threats and for the first time Commander Boyd had absolutely nothing to say to that.
"They'll need a court hearing to get them out of here." He tried to assert his dominance after several minutes of being silent.
Mihandra answered to that with a hearty laugh, "you can't be serious, you have nothing on them I'm leaving with client today, right now."
Commander Boyd was being stubborn for absolutely no reason and he knew it too but backing down now would only assert the fact that he was in the wrong and by his standards, he was never wrong.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Sir, they're right sir. We have no grounds holding them here any longer." Williams didn't want to get into trouble, not more than he was already in anyway so against his better judgement he spoke against his superior officer.
"Boy, nobody asked for your opinion. You're still wet behind your ears, you should keep quiet and learn how we do things around here. You want to climb the ladder don't you?" His voice was suddenly more certain than ever.
Williams didn't even look up, he was completely defeated at this point. He didn't intend to say anything anymore, distancing himself from this was already too late, he would just need to take the consequences as they come.
The torturing of suspects was something they were supposed to do in the shadows, the top brass was completely clear about this and now that they were caught he didn't doubt that Commander Boyd would take the fall and by extension, since he was under him, he would fall with him.
He still didn't understand how they got that footage though, not that it mattered at the moment because their atrocities have come to light, Williams didn't doubt that once investigations are underway, they find much much more things they had done for the government in the dark.
"This isn't the end of this, mark my words Mr Boyd, torturing the head of the Silva family will have ground breaking consequences." Isla's older brother said, as he supported his father. "Mr. Khan was correct, we will be working together to ensure this never happens to anyone. Innocent or guilty the law forbids this kind of interrogative means..."
"But rest assured, we will be pushing for you and your entourage to receive something far worse than they did." Kiro didn't mean to but finished Dion's statement.
"Is that a threat? Threatening a government—"
"I suppose it is a threat, but you won't be an official for much longer. Mr. Khan, is the lawsuit ready to file, so we can just do it right now?"
Mahindra smiled, feeling himself a little proud of the boy that seemed to have grown in strides since the last time they met. He'd always wanted a son but he wasn't so lucky, when his wife died he didn't marry or take up another woman. He knew it was silly but it felt like cheating to him.
"Already drawn up and ready to file." He announced proudly, as they left the dingy basement of the government building.
Mahindra was on his phone typing up a fierce email as they rode up the elevator. When it opened again revealing the lobby he was already hitting send.
Kiro was waiting for his mother to give his father a piece of her mind but she was quiet and nursing her husband, she looked a little down, a side Kiro had seen very sparsely in his years alive.
Sekani was laughing guiltily, apologising profusely but she didn't pay attention to any of his ramblings. Seeing him dangling from the ceiling and being beaten like that scared her a lot, she didn't have to energy to shout at him at the moment, she was just happy he was alright.
"Wilfred, what the hell happened. You guys can't do stealth?" Kiro asked between gritted teeth, he'd already been told the story loosely, he was just a little angry that he almost lost his own father.
"There is no excuse young master. We shouldn't have left the dead body in the first place but there was so much going on already, James was knocked out cold and required to be carried around. I'm truly sorry to have disappointed you." His voice was low enough that he wasn't heard.
"Did you at least accomplish the task? Are they safe?"
"Very safe Sir."
Kiro was satisfied with that, he felt a huge weight lifted off his shoulders having completed his grandfather's dying wish. He rubbed the necklace he was given by him when he was a child.
'We did it papi, we did it.'
Even with the weight lifted he still felt a heavy burden, now they needed to defeat an evil God that wanted to swallow their entire worlds. Their troubles didn't seem to be going away, not any time soon.
What he would do to go on a date with Isla right now like a normal teenager. But he wasn't normal, far from it.
