The Blue Eyes

Chapter 223 - MAKE HIM PAY

It was almost midnight, but she was still wide awake on her bed. A man was sleeping soundly while hugging her waist, and she didn't want to disturb the man's rest.

Her mind wandered. It had been so long since the last time she recalled the memory, but the memory was still vivid in her mind.

["Who is that, Mom? Who is that cute baby?" A little girl in auburn hair questioned an older woman enthusiastically.

The woman was just showing a cute baby picture on her phone to the little girl, and it seemed the girl was so happy to see such an adorable baby on the phone screen.

"You like this baby so much, hm?" The older woman asked a question to the little girl. "He's your little brother. You will be a good sister for him, won't you?"

The girl was still so little, and probably she didn't know how to be a good sister for a newborn baby. Her auburn hair was cut short, and her body was quite skinny. She would be five years old this year, but somehow she looked small for a kid her age.

She was still growing up, and some of her teeth were missing. However, the missing teeth made her look even cuter.

"He's my brother?" The girl asked again as she looked up at the mother figure. "But, why didn't you bring him here to meet me, Mom? He doesn't want to see me?"

The little girl suddenly pouted her thin lips, making the woman gazing at her gloomily before putting her phone aside. She then used her two hands to scoop the girl's little body, placing her on top of her laps.

"Your brother is still so little. You saw how red his cheeks are, right? If I bring him here, he probably will get sick. You don't want him to get sick, do you?"

The little girl furrowed her brows as she contemplated what her mother just said. She didn't even understand what was the meaning of the baby's red cheeks, so she didn't get what her mother meant.

However, her mother told her that the baby had just come out of her tummy, so probably the baby was indeed still so small. They were currently at an open space in an orphanage, and a place like that was not good for a baby, right?

"I got it, Mom," the little girl finally replied. "But, I can see my brother when he's getting bigger, right? I can play with him, right?"

The little girl was still so innocent, and her big eyes looked so pure as they stared at the lady's hazel orbs. The adorable sight urged the lady to kiss the little girl's cheek.

"Of course, you can play with your brother when he's bigger. You will take care of him for me, right?"]

"Why aren't you sleeping, honey?"

A question in a rough voice broke her reverie. She just realized that she was lost in her daydream in the middle of the night.

The question caused her to turn her head to the side, finding a man with his eyes closed but no longer fully asleep as he was able to throw her a question.

"Did I disturb your sleep?" The woman asked the man back as she turned over so that she was facing the man now.

Sensing that the woman had finally given him her full attention, the man finally opened his eyes. A pair of grey eyes made contact with the hazel ones.

"It's you who are disturbed by your thoughts, honey," the man replied as he used his muscled hand to caress the woman's soft cheek. "Did you remember about the past event again?"

The woman sighed as she closed her eyes under the man's tender care. She didn't even say anything to the man, but the man managed to understand how she felt.

"Reminiscing the past made me feel old," the woman answered as she opened her eyes again. "Even so, I would still go back to the memory every night."

It was the man's turn to sigh heavily. "Why did you always remember the past? Are you not happy with me and Charlie here with you?"

The man suddenly sounded disappointed, and the woman felt bad right away. "That's not what I meant," she replied as she squeezed the man's hand. "You and Charlie are the best gifts I've ever had. I'm so thankful because you and Charlie are always here with me from the start."

Charlie was still two years old, and he was at the cutest stage of his life. He could walk with his own two legs without needing help from others, and he was also able to speak rather long sentences.

Both of them were so happy to see how their kid grew up.

"I and Charlie will always be by your side, so you don't have to be bothered by your past. Let's make new memory together, and you should erase the memory from your past."

It was easier to say than done. The woman wanted to say that, but she didn't want to hurt her husband. Her husband just wanted to comfort her, and she didn't want to be rude toward her dear husband.

"If you still reminisce the past from time to time, that makes me think that you regret your decision," the man broke the silence again. "Do you regret your decision?"

Talking about regret, did she still have the feeling in her heart? Did she still feel guilty for what she had done in the past?

She couldn't even read what was in her heart, but she didn't want to regret everything she had done. She didn't want to feel guilty anymore. She had to revenge for what she experienced in the past.

Her expression turned even darker when she said, "I don't regret it, and I will make him pay for what he had done to me in the past."
