Chapter 87 - Problem At The Bank
"Yes sir, but this is not a problem with having the money at the bank. Bank policy dictates that large amounts of withdrawal need to be authorized by the supernatural council's subsidies.", the manager said.
Lucas laughed. He laughed a lot. It was so deafening that people around him looked at him wierldly.
"What do I need for that? A signature from a council member? Angela. You have a stamp or something right?", Lucas looked at Angela.
"I must have put it somewhere.", Angela nodded as she searched her pockets.
"Are you joking with me right now? I was already put under alert because a werewolf and a vampire arrived into the bank together. Now, you make fun of the council, and you make fun of the ones chosen by god?", the manager raged.
This argument was clearly heard by the many people within the bank, and they all looked at Lucas and Angela with interest.
"Found it.", Angela said as she took out a seemingly unassuming talisman. She pressed on the piece of paper, and it started shining bright. Then, a seal appeared out of thin air, visible to everyone.
"The council approves of this transaction. Please continue with the remaining formalities.", Angela said.
"That is not just the seal of the subsidiary. That is the seal of the actual council! How did you get your hands on one of those? The council remains to be one of the most mysterious groups in the world!", the manager exclaimed.
"This? Insider perks for where I work. Now, you can't possibly intend to go against the council, can you?", Angela smiled.
"Forgive me for not being able to see that you were part of the council's subsidiaries. I shall bring over the testing machine to check for your identity.", the manager nodded. He turned around and left immediately, leaving the bank teller alone with Lucas.
"Sorry for the inconvenience. I was just following banking orders.", the teller smiled.
"It's as if all of you are robots. You don't care even if you are not treated properly.", Lucas sighed.
The bank teller still sighed. Soon enough, the manager came back with the same swabs of cotton and syringe that the centaur had brought over to him a month ago. The same samples were taken, and the both of them were told to sit in the waiting room.
They complied. Inside the waiting room, again, diversity ensued. There were people of many races, and many... looks. Some looked human. Many did not.
"You know, us sitting together like this, so close, it might be a bad look. Even supernaturals watch movies, you know.", Angela said.
"All you care about is how you look, and if your privacy is being monitored. Think about the bigger picture for a second will you.", Lucas told her in a low voice.
"What would you do if you got into the limelight. Oh, it is such a pain.", Angela sighed.
"That was why I refused that offer to make me a model. I would have become twice as popular as you were, if I tried. But I know that I have priorities, and that is to not kill everyone around me. Becoming a super star kind of defeats the purpose of all that.", Lucas explained.
He then glanced towards the person opposite to him.
"You know, eavesdropping is not a good habit. I suggest you go back to scrolling through your phone.", he said out loud. All the other people in the room looked at the person Lucas was referring to. It was a middle aged looking man. He looked human, and nothing was odd about him.
"You must be mistaken. Why would you think that I am eavesdropping on your conversation?", the man smiled.
"Because you were leaning towards us, your ears slightly tilted towards us, and I just know.", Lucas said.
"This is all a huge misunderstanding. I have no intention of listening to other people's conversations.", the man said.
"That is good. Let us hope that you stay to your words.", Lucas nodded as he got up now.
"Let us go back. The manager is back.", he told Angela.
"Already? Look at all these other poor people who are waiting. Why was our process a lot shorter?", Angela asked sweetly.
"Don't taunt everyone you see. That just creates more trouble for us.", Lucas said coldly as he left the room. Angela also quickly followed.
They stepped in front of the bank teller.
"Sir, Madam, you have to wait still. The manager will be back with the samples tested very soon.", the bank teller said.
"Don't worry. We are regulars at a different branch. We are well aware of the procedures that need to be taken. But your manager skipped the line for us, and look at that, he is already here.", Lucas pointed towards a corridor.
The bank teller looked. There was no one there. He smiled as he shook his head. He was about to turn back, when he saw that the manager was indeed, coming from that corridor.
"You have an extraordinary sense of hearing, Sir. My hats off to you.", the bank teller praised Lucas.
"Its okay, I am aware of that. Now, shall we see if we are going to leave this bank a millionare?", Lucas asked.
The manager came back with a solemn look. He glanced at Lucas, and at Angela, and back at Lucas.
"I was told that you were regulars at the main branch, and that you were supposed to be treated as guests of the highest honour. That is a respect that the bank does not even give to Presidents.", the manager said.
"We are probably more important than the president. Now, how much do I have in my account?", Lucas asked.
Angela chuckled when she heard this. "I am more important, not you.", she said.
