Chapter 104 - Talking With The King
Lucas winced. He slowly turned to face Odin.
"Please don't call me that. I don't want to get in the middle of the both of you. Why don't you just talk to each other, and I will stay out of it? I will tell you what I need to tell you after all of that is done." Lucas said.
"I wouldn't want to risk letting a flight risk leave his dear friend in bodies again. I think that he should stay where he is. When you have him listen to everything that you want to keep private, then you should be able to have the same privilege right?" Odin smiled.
"He isn't wrong." Lucas chuckled.
Fenrir growled, and Liu Feng felt a sharp thang in his stomach.
"You promised not to bite." Lucas winced.
"Well, let us speak clearly then. Why did you come all the way here from your dear old rat pack all the way in New York? I heard that you emptied it recently though? Family problems?" Odin chuckled.
"What? Are you taunting me? I can always release the beast inside. Can you contain him once more? The chains are no longer with you. They are somewhere that you cannot take them from. I have made sure of it." Lucas snarled.
"How dare you use that tone with the great Odin." Across the desk, an enraged and bewildered Erik shouted.
"Shut up you buffoon. When the big ones talk, little children shouldn't interfere." Lucas growled back at him with red eyes.
Erik fell back to his chair, his eyes trembled as he made eye contact with Lucas' terrifying eyes.
"Now, back to the topic. Let me just tell you. Even if you are a god, there are certain boundaries. All of us know that you are not omnipotent, and we very well know that even if you are immortal, you can technically be killed. So then, are you willing to hear what we have to say, or are you going to waste time, and dilly dally as you await your death?" Lucas asked.
"Then let us take this conversation a little private, shall we?" Odin said softly.
"Why? Are you afraid that everyone here will find out that you are incompetent and not omnipotent? They will find out that even the great Odin has many problems that he simply cannot take care of." Lucas chuckled.
Odin's face darkened. He snapped his fingers, and Lucas felt that everything around him disappeared. Now, they were sitting opposite to each other, in a bland and empty room, with a table separating them.
"Tell me now. For what reason have you come to this place? This better be something good, or I will personally make sure that the underworld will receive your soul." Odin growled.
"Do you dare? Do you want to fight, you old fogey? I'll fight if you want to." Fenrir suddenly shouted.
"Looks like he is quite defensive about you. That is good. I never thought that there would be something in this world that he would have a care about." Odin chuckled.
"Provoke me one more time and I will rip Lucas apart and come for you. You might have had the help of all the gods last time, but this time, I know that they won't be able to stop me." Fenrir said.
"I came here for a negotiation. Both of you, calm down while I detail how this will go." Lucas finally spoke.
"Do you think that you can actually do something?" Odin chuckled.
"I am the one thing that is stopping Fenrir from ripping you apart. Shut up and listen to me. I am sure that you know about the information saying that Ragnarok might be coming. You see, you thought that Ragnarok will be coming because Ouroborus was being freed. But I think that it is just the starting. I think that there are many more forces at play here." Lucas said.
"What makes you think that?" Odin asked, his arm under his chin as he sat looking at Lucas with amusement.
"Because for the first time in a century, I almost died. And for the first time in this millennium, someone actually got close to bringing out Fenrir. And this was on purpose. Some mad woman planned my death not because she hated me, but because she wanted Fenrir out of me." Lucas said.
"Alright, but here you are, aren't you? You are still alive. So why do I feel like all of this is unwarranted?" Odin asked.
"Because she has an immortal army, technically," Lucas said.
"An immortal army? What are you talking about?" Odin asked, his back upright as he looked at Lucas with seriousness.
"People that die will come back to life. It seems that the underworld that you wanted to take me to, also wants to take you down with me. They are allowing the minions of this woman to return back to the mortal world, and that is very irritating, because we cannot do the same. The council wants the gods to deal with the underworld so that we can deal with the Marquess." Lucas said.
"You want us to deal with the underworld? Interesting. But why does all of this concern me? I still have no idea how this will help me? This person that you are talking about is clearly nothing too dangerous. She could not even kill you. You have come here for nothing." Odin shook his head.
"She is an apostle of Apophis. Doesn't that interest you? We already had to face a god, and she was able to command the Sphynx. There are many who are disgruntled by your reign. By Zeus' reign. They are not going to sit still. There will be a war, and this will be the true Ragnarok. So why don't you pull yourself together and start looking at the world again? You are about to be dethroned." Lucas said.
"You said something about a negotiation. What was that all about?" Odin asked.
"Right. So, as you know, one of the major players of Ragnarok is Fenrir. Obviously. But Fenrir has no interest in destroying the mortal world. So, he will help the gods under one condition." Lucas said.
"And what might that be?"
"Freedom."
"Impossible." Odin thundered. "I tolerated all the stories that you have told me. You told me that Fenrir does not wish to destroy the mortal realm. Nonesense. That is what he was born for. I know him, because I have watched him his whole life. He is not one to change, and letting him stay in your body was already a big concession I made. Do not push my patience any longer."
"Do you really think that you can do this on your own? Maybe you will have the help of your sons. But do you think that everyone in Asgard is going to help you? You are the king. Not everyone is subservient because they respect you. Many are willing to risk it all to dethrone you and become the king themselves." Lucas said.
"What are you suggesting, you filthy swine? That the great gods of Asgard are as corrupt as you humans?" Odin thundered. He stood up, and Lucas felt an extremely powerful force trying to push him into the ground.
"Threatening a kid? Is that all you got? Pick on someone your own size." Fenrir scoffed. Lucas felt all the pressure on him vanish, and Odin was pushed back one step.
"Then it seems that we have arrived at an impasse. It seems that you do not wish to help us in this case. You do not believe me. But there is another council member here. She is someone appointed by Thanatos himself. Why not ask her what she thinks? I knew that you wouldn't believe me. You are far too rigid and unable to accept reality. That is why I brought some reinforcements. Go ahead. Ask her. Or are you too afraid to face the truth?" Lucas asked Odin.
"Fine. I shall ask her. But any difference between what you said and what she said, and I will-"
"What will you do? I will see what you will dare to do." Fenrir cut him short.
Odin did not say anything in response. He snapped his fingers one more time, and Angela appeared on the side. She looked around with confusion, and only relaxed when she saw Lucas and Odin.
"Why have you called me here, Great God? I thought that Lucas here would take care of everything? I hope that he hasn't offended you." Angela bowed to Odin.
"Don't be so idiotic. You don't need to act like he is your master or anything. He is just a norse god. You are not even in his jurisdiction." Lucas scoffed.
"Looks like he did offend you." Angela sighed.
"Child. It is time for you to speak. For what reason did the council send you both here?" Odin asked.
