Chapter 1397: Temper

As Qiao Xuan closed the door, she offered an apologetic bow.
She realized her own oversight. It was Princess Shuangfu’s first time leaving the palace, and it was only natural that she was eager. This excitement had prompted her to arrive early.
Princess Shuangfu instructed Bi Yun to help her with her outerwear and addressed Qiao Xuan with a smile, “Madame Shao, there’s no need to stand on ceremony. I may trouble you in the coming days. Please feel free to be yourself.”
Qiao Xuan felt relieved and responded with a smile, “Of course not, Miss Fu. If you have no objections, I won’t hesitate to be less formal.”
“Of course not! My brother mentioned that Madame Shao is very easygoing, and it seems to be true. Madame Shao, let’s be at ease with each other.”
Princess Shuangfu remarked, smiling at Qiao Xuan. “Madame Shao, no need for unnecessary politeness, just be yourself.”
“You’re absolutely right, Miss Fu! I’ll gladly heed your advice.”
They shared a warm smile.
Princess Shuangfu mentioned, “I didn’t have breakfast this morning. Madame Shao, do you have any suggestions for a meal?”Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Qiao Xuan suggested, “Jinquan Pavilion has some delicious snacks. What flavor do you prefer, Miss Fu? Why don’t we try them there?”
Princess Shuangfu displayed interest and replied, “I’m not particular. I’m open to anything, Madame Shao, please decide. I’d like to try a little of everything.”
Qiao Xuan nodded with a smile. “Pea yellow, sweet osmanthus, almond cakes, rue bean rolls, Longjing green tea crisps, crab roe steamed buns, beef cereal, steamed dumplings with shredded chicken and winter bamboo shoots, fried radish cakes, and tofu pudding are all quite renowned. Shall we order a serving of each and four side dishes, as well as four appetizing sour and sweet preserves?”
Princess Shuangfu’s interest grew, and she nodded with a smile. “Certainly, that sounds delectable.”
Qiao Xuan wore a warm smile as she inquired, “What type of tea do you prefer?”
Princess Shuangfu responded with a smile, “Madame Shao, I’m not particular. I’ll gladly accept your suggestion.”
Qiao Xuan contemplated for a moment and suggested, “How about a pot of jasmine tea?”
“Sounds wonderful!”
Lixia called the waiter over, and Qiao Xuan proceeded to place the order for the tea and snacks. The waiter, attentive and cheerful, confirmed the order and assured them of a prompt delivery.
Having previously supplied strawberries to Jinquan Restaurant, Qiao Xuan was recognized by the staff here, even though she didn’t frequent the teahouse often. The waitstaff knew her as a valuable client they couldn’t afford to displease, treating her with warmth and consideration.
Princess Shuangfu expressed her envy, saying with a smile, “Madame Shao, you must be a regular at this teahouse. I envy you greatly. I’ve never had such casual conversations with anyone before.”
Qiao Xuan was simultaneously amused and touched by the comment. She thought there was nothing to envy.
However, Princess Shuangfu, despite being a princess, had lost her parents at a very young age and was not doted on. Though the Crown Prince treated her better than others, his attention was limited. After all, he was occupied with numerous responsibilities and matters. How could he remember to care for his half-sister?
While Princess Shuangfu didn’t have to worry about her basic needs, her days were monotonous and uneventful. She had only interacted with a select few individuals throughout her life, and her social circle was exceedingly limited. It wasn’t surprising that she’d feel envious when observing others engage in carefree conversations.
Qiao Xuan couldn’t delve into royal matters, so she offered a simple explanation with a smile, “I am acquainted with Jinquan Restaurant because I own over 20 mus of land in the capital. I cultivated a significant quantity of strawberries last year, and I’ve been supplying them to Jinquan Restaurant.”
What do you think?
