Return of the last survivor

Chapter 35: Elements

Chapter 35: Elements

On the other hand, Merlin was frozen solid by Foveros' intense gaze. Although it wasn't actually pressuring Merlin in any way, Merlin knew that something was wrong. He was currently preparing to run away as fast as he could.

Just as he was going to let go of Foveros, a childish voice rang in his head.

'Merlin! Again! Again! Again! Blue energy! Again!!'

"Blueenergy?"

"BLUE! BLUE! BLUE!'

"Ah! Do you mean mana?"

'MERLIN! BLUE!"

"Is this is?"

Merlin held Foveros with one hand, and used his free hand to pull out some mana from his body and convert it to water element and brought it out through the pores in his skin. It slowly condensed into a water ball the size of a baseball.

Through this, What Merlin realised was that the efficiency and speed of conversion from pure mana to elemental mana was around 30% better than when he was in his peak, fighting with Zero. One should know that no matter the Tier, or the control one has over their mana, they can never increase this efficiency. However, Merlin's efficiency had miraculously increased, and so did the speed of conversion, and he suspected that it had to do with his passive skill [Elemental Body]

'Blue! Yay!'

The small Foveros jumped straight towards the ball of water at a speed that even the Tier 1 Merlin could not see him until he landed in the ground, completely soaked in water, with a sad expression on its face.

Merlin now understood that Foveros wanted to play with the mana within the water ball, and as soon as it touched the ball, the mana was forcibly dispersed from his incredible speed. This is also a reason why Merlin was focusing on his body in the beginning of the tutorial. Assassins were an elementalists' and a mage's greatest threats.

Once these assassins reached a certain speed, they could disperse the mana within low tier spells just by their insane speed. Merlin intended on growing in both magic and body, to eliminate this weakness as much as possible.

Suddenly, Merlin felt another shiver up his spine. Vigilantly searching the area, he found nothing but Foveros, glaring at him.

"Ah. You want the blue energy right? Wait. I'll make something that will last."

With this, Merlin quickly turned his hand into a claw, and struck at the ground. Since they were already on the ground floor, the floor didn't collapse. Merlin had also used some mana to restrict the damage to only the ground within his palm.

That part of the ground turned to fine dust, while the surrounding air turned into a gale pushing everything away. Naturally, this did not affect Foveros on bit.

Merlin then injected his mana into the fine dust and began controlling it. It should be known that mana could not create elemental magic. It could only amplify, modify and diminish it. In order to create wind magic, mana controlled the air in the surroundings. In order to create fire magic, mana was used to arouse the heat within the body, and use the mana as fuel to create flames. And similarly, for earth magic, one needed to have some sort of rocks, soil or dust around them.

Naturally, this was only the preliminary way to use magic. Once a person's understanding reached a certain point, they could create elements with enough mana. Naturally, Merlin's understanding had long since reached that point. What he was lacking was enough mana to do that. Therefore, until he reached Tier 3, he was restricted to manipulating existing elements.

Merlin controlled the dust and turned it into a ball. He then compacted the outer surface of the ball, turning it into a hollow stone ball. Naturally, this was also a Tier 0 spell, [Earth Shape], but Merlin had used another level 0 spell [Compact] along with it to produce this. It was something only a person with enough control over their mana as Merlin could achieve.

He placed the ball that weighed about 4 lbs on the ground, and rolled it to Foveros, who happily pounced in it and began rolling it around with his little paws. Merlin sighed in relief, seeing that the ball wasn't breaking. It seemed like Foveros was merely playing with it, and not trying to break it.

Merlin had purposefully injected some extra mana into the empty space within the ball, not only to increase the stability of the ball, a lot more than a ball made completely of stone, but also to attract Foveros' attention.

With this, the two walked to the main lobby and found James, Max and two other people standing behind them at attention, waiting for Merlin.

"Good! Everyone is here."
