Chapter 518: Chapter 525: Watch Closely
“General Han, Miss Su is inside. Just go in by yourself,” the servant said with indifference. The master showed no favor, and therefore the servants gave Han Yu no kindness. These days, the master had been taking diligent care of Miss Su, and it was evident to everyone the affection he had for her. Yet, to everyone’s surprise, Miss Su had a husband – this cold and expressionless looking man before them. To them, it was as if a fresh flower had been planted upon cow dung – a waste considering their master’s feelings.
Han Yu paid no heed to their attitudes. Standing at the door, he felt an unusual hesitation. Time and again, hope had turned to disappointment, making this moment feel somewhat surreal. After taking a deep breath, he walked inside. Only when he saw the figure on the bed, frowning with pain, did he quicken his pace. Within a few steps, he was at the bedside. Even as a grown man, he felt an urge to weep at that moment.
“Lady Yue, my wife!” Han Yu hurried over and lifted the person on the bed into his arms. Holding her tightly, the realness of her touch gave Han Yu some grounding at last. He had truly found his wife. But what torments she must have endured these past days, to have become so thin – she seemed to weigh nothing in his embrace, her body all but skin and bones.
Although Han Yu was overwhelmed with emotion, desperate to express his worries and longing for her day and night, the person in his arms only continued to frown deeply, trapped in her own dreams, slow to wake, unable to respond to Han Yu. Only when he held her too tightly did she struggle unconsciously a few times.
“My wife,” Han Yu called out deeply. By this time, his initial excitement had subsided into concern. Seeing his wife in such a state, he felt only worry, relieved that the Divine Doctor was already on his way.
“My wife, both our child and I need you. You have to get better. I was wrong before. I shouldn’t have let you leave with our child. From now on, whatever happens, we must stay together. No grand ambitions or great undertakings will be more important than you,” Han Yu said, holding her and sharing his deepest feelings.
“I wish to take my wife with me. Please, Young Master Sikong, afford us this convenience,” Han Yu had thought that since Sikong Ling had allowed him to enter Peach Blossom Valley to see his wife, he would let him take her away too. Moreover, Han Yu did not wish others to know of the Divine Doctor’s involvement. He intended to leave with Su Wenyue.
“You can leave, but you cannot take her with you,” Sikong Ling said in an uncompromising tone. It was a joke! Allowing Han Yu into Peach Blossom Valley was already a huge concession on his part. If he were to let Han Yu take her away just like that, then he was not worthy of the name Sikong Ling. Moreover, even if Su Wenyue were to wake up, it was still unclear what condition she would be in. If she truly became senseless, he wouldn’t mind taking care of her. Then, perhaps Su Wenyue wouldn’t be so obstinate in having none other than Han Yu.
“What do you mean, Young Master Sikong? Lady Yue is my wife. Could it be that you covet my wife?!” Han Yu narrowed his eyes, his tone carrying a hint of danger and menace. To anyone else, it might have been frightening, but who was Sikong Ling?
Sikong Ling simply ignored Han Yu’s threatening and unfriendly gaze, feeling somewhat pleased inside: “So what if I covet her? Only a man with no ability would let his woman end up in the hands of another. I really don’t know what Lady Yue sees in you.”
Peach Blossom Valley belonged to Sikong Ling, and if Sikong Ling refused to let Su Wenyue leave, Han Yu had no choice but to compromise temporarily. It wasn’t for lack of concern about having a fallout with Sikong Ling. Rather, Su Wenyue simply couldn’t withstand any further strain. Han Yu had to think of another way. Right now, the most important thing was to help Lady Yue get better. Compared to that, nothing else mattered.
“Master, everything’s been arranged,” Zhai Li whispered to him after checking to make sure no one was watching. They had to be extremely cautious in another’s territory, especially in Peach Blossom Valley, lest they reveal their intentions too soon.
Han Yu nodded, his usually stern face finally showing some relief. With the Divine Doctor’s arrival, he hoped his wife would get better. As for his relationship with the Divine Doctor, Han Yu couldn’t decipher Sikong Ling’s current plan, but he knew that Sikong wouldn’t end things well. It was best to keep hidden things hidden; they might prove useful later on.
Meanwhile, Sikong Ling had also received news of the Divine Doctor’s whereabouts through the Jianghu – not far from here, in a small village. Without hesitation, Sikong Ling personally set out to invite him.
It was said that the Divine Doctor was not only skilled in medicine but also had a very peculiar temperament. Sending underlings with uncertainty of success was not Sikong Ling’s style. Before leaving Peach Blossom Valley, he made a point to activate the valley’s mechanisms. Even with all his ability, Han Yu mustn’t dream of leaving with Su Wenyue.
Even though the arrival of the Divine Doctor would likely keep Han Yu from leaving, Sikong Ling disliked unexpected developments. The news of the Divine Doctor raised doubts in his mind; its authenticity required verification by seeing the person in question.
“Keep a close watch on Han Yu in the valley. Don’t let him tamper with anything,” Sikong Ling instructed the Phantom. He had been displeased with Phantom’s subtle self-interests before and had kept them away from Su Wenyue. Though he knew Phantom would never betray him, he simply felt uncomfortable. But now, Phantom was the best choice to watch over Han Yu.
Though Sikong Ling often mocked Han Yu, deep down, he acknowledged Han Yu’s abilities. The fact that Han Yu had come this far in such a short time demanded respect, which was why Sikong had taken such precautions.
“Master, rest assured, your subordinate won’t let Han Yu have any opportunity to meddle,” Phantom assured.
Sikong Ling approached the village, wary and doubtful, and indeed found the Divine Doctor, solidifying his confidence. No matter what, he had located the Divine Doctor. Although it all seemed to be going too smoothly, arousing suspicion, confirmation could only come upon meeting him.
Regardless of how Sikong Ling confirmed that this person was the Divine Doctor, without prior acquaintance and based solely on sharp eyes and available information, if he could not discern even this, he did not deserve the title of Young Master of the Sikong Family. The old family head had chosen Sikong Ling not only out of personal affection but also because of his genuine ability to handle the position.
Although Sikong Ling had found the Divine Doctor, the doctor had no intention of dealing with him, not even sparing him a glance, simply ignoring his presence. Sikong Ling greeted him kindly, only to receive treatment worse than that given to an ordinary person.
The more the Divine Doctor acted this way, the more Sikong Ling felt assured of his authenticity. This sort of reaction seemed normal. Any feelings of unease from before were brushed aside as he focused on how to persuade the Divine Doctor to come to Peach Blossom Valley. Reflecting upon it, Sikong Ling felt somewhat foolish; knowing the Divine Doctor’s location, he should have had Han Yu come to invite him. Why did he bother coming only to face difficulty?
With a wry smile, Sikong Ling acknowledged that ever since Su Wenyue entered his life, he seemed to have become quite unlike himself.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
