CHAPTER 366 - Meeting Ann.
"I guess I'm still dreaming."
A girl with dark black hair and Prussian blue eyes muttered as she stared at the sight of a divine-looking guy with ink-black hair and haunting red eyes standing in front of her with a chibi wolf on his shoulder.
The girl was Ann, and she was sleeping in her room when she suddenly felt like the window of her room was opened with a light push; it was as if the one who did it was trying to not make even a little bit of sound.
It was as if they were trying to not wake her up.
Ann, however, tensed the moment she felt it.
This was not her home, and although she had never felt any danger in this palace, she never felt at home here.
Even the way people looked at her—the looks of awe and fear—it didn't sit well with her.
But what she saw or who she saw wasn't even possible to happen.
There was no way her Alex could just come here unannounced.
She just turned her back toward the window and tightly shut her eyes, wanting to wake up from this dream.
But just then...
"MAMA!!"
A loud scream was heard, causing Ann's eyes to snap open in disbelief.
This voice was unmistakably her adopted daughter's; there was not a hint of doubt about it.
*Woosh*
She hurriedly sat up straight on her bed, right in time to catch Noctura, who had jumped down at her.
"Mama!"
Her eyes quivered as she felt the fur of Noctura rubbing against her face as she got the scent of Noctura.
Her head then creaked toward the guy who was standing next to her bed with a gentle smile on her face, causing her body to tremble and drops of tears to form at the corner of her eyes.
*Sob*
With a light sob, she jumped on Alex with Noctura still in her arms.
Alex, who caught Ann along with Noctura, quickly twisted his body, falling on the bed along with them.
His arms moved around on Ann's back and waist, caressing them with a soft and gentle touch.
He missed her touch, he missed her smell, he missed everything about her.
"Hmmm."
He hummed in satisfaction as he pressed Ann's body harder on his chest along with Noctura.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Ann, still sobbing in relief, just buried her head in his chest while holding Noctura close to her body.
The amount of comfort she felt in Alex's arms was a bit too much for her.
It had just been so long for her.
The days she lived here were in no way bad, but without Alex, Alice, and Noctura, it was all just a hollow shell.
Now, however, she felt like the life that looked colorless before was now filled with colors.
She couldn't stop her gaze from turning heavy as she drifted into the dreams in Alex's arms, her fingers clutching Alex's shirt as hard as they could while her other hand held Noctura, not wanting to let go of anything.
It was as if she were scared that all of this would vanish the moment she woke up.
Alex, on the other hand, just shed as he patted her head with a smile, pushing some of his incubus aura into her head, causing her body to visibly relax.
Alex just smiled at that, pulling her closer and closing his eyes as well, taking a short nap.
No one in the entire empire knew anything related to this, as Alex had isolated this place by a wind barrier, making it so that no voice would leave this place or enter this place without his permission.
There was only one person who knew about the demon lord, a.k.a. Alex Matthew's, presence in the human empire, but even that person was out cold in her bathtub.
If someone knew about it, then the whole population of the imperial capital would just die from the tension alone.
It was not just anyone, but the demon lord.
Even the side characters of the demon empire, beings called the barons of a small kingdom of the demon empire, were strong enough to wreak havoc in the human empire, much less the high nobilities.
If a duke of the kingdom were to arrive, then other than the guardian of the human empire, there was no one else who could even stand a chance against them.
In the whole human empire, there was no more than a single legendary ranker, and the demon dukes could range from epic 3 rank to legendary 2 rank, so just the mere mention of a demon noble was a source of terror for humans.
What if they knew about the fact that one of the beings they were depending on to go ahead and kill the demon lord was in the same demon lord's arms, sleeping peacefully? Then God knows how they would react.
But the ones in question didn't really care about the opinion of the others, as both Alex and Ann were now awake and staring into each other's eyes.
*Inhale**Exhale*
Their breaths hit the other's skin before they moved closer to each other, their lips thirsty for each other's touch, but just when their lips were about to touch...
"Mmmm!"
Ann's eyes widened as she heard the muffled groan, and she hurriedly moved a bit away from Alex.
"—Phua!"
The moment she did so, Noctura jumped out from between Alex and Ann, taking in a large puff of air before she smiled as she jumped right back in.
She had been stuffed between them for a long time—for one or two hours that Ann was sleeping.
But she didn't object as she felt comfort in there, and it was not like she couldn't breathe; she could do it fine. That was until Ann and Alex started moving closer for a kiss.
Noctura was not a child anymore, and she could tell what was happening, but after only being able to take in a limited amount of air for a while, the congested space was not really good for her, causing her to run out of air in just a millisecond.
That was why she called out to Ann.
But as soon as she sucked in a mouthful of air, she jumped back into the place that felt like the most comfortable spot she had ever been to.
*Chuckle*
*Giggle*
Her actions incited light chuckles and giggles from Alex and Ann, respectively.
But just then...
*Knock**Knock*
"Ann, are you awake?"
A knock on the door of the room was heard, followed by a male voice tinged with worry and urgency, causing both Alex and Ann to frown.
Ann frowned, as she clearly knew who it was.
It was the hero of the human empire, Eric Reeves, the most annoying and blood-boiling guy she had ever met.
He was like a simp to her; no matter how harsh she was to him or no matter how much cold shoulder she gave him, she couldn't get him out of her life.
There was only one option left, and that was to kill the guy and end it all for once, but she knew it was not possible, especially with the guardian of the human empire, Viessa Evergarden, keeping an eye on every summoned person.
All she could do was grit her teeth and curse the guy on his face.
Alex, on the other hand, was frowning because of the tone of intimacy he heard from the voice.
It was as if a lover were calling to his love, but his frown relaxed the moment he saw Ann's expression.
Although Ann had grown better at controlling her emotions and expressions as she used to train all of them the most in this palace, for Alex, she was like an open book. Discover hidden stories at empire
"Someone you know?"
Alex had yet to use his perception or all-seeing eyes to look at the person next to the door; he just questioned Ann about it.
"Yeah, a very annoying guy…"
Ann replied in a grumble as she placed her head on his chest, trying to calm her nerves by listening to the calm rhythm of his heart.
"He might barge in if you don't answer him, you know."
Alex commented as he caressed her hair gently, not pushing her away or anything.
He was the last person who would worry about the situation; in the whole human empire, there was no one who could survive a single attack from him.
"He wouldn't dare to."
Ann, on the other hand, just growled at Alex's words, almost biting his nipples to teach him a lesson.
Here she was trying to calm herself by ignoring that guy, and here he was, trying to remind her of the guy.
"Looks like you got it wrong…"
Alex, who heard Ann's words, just shrugged as he could feel a very intense emotion of concern from the other side of the gate.
"Ann, please answer me if you are awake; this is worrying me."
The words of the guy were heard again, and without a second wait, the voice spoke again.
"If you don't answer in 3 seconds, I will assume that you are in trouble and barge into the room!"
The voice grew loud and tense as the guy spoke in a hurried tone, and not wanting to waste any time, he started the countdown.
