Chapter 180 - Too Late For Regrets (2)
Choosing their wedding rings took more time than they expected. Several pairs had been suggested to the two of them but Li Chuntao didn't like the style of the bands and how flashy the stones were. Although she was excited for their impending marriage, she wanted to stay true to herself and pick something simple but elegant.
After an hour, they finally picked a pair of rings and requested the shop to engrave their names and wedding date inside. When they stepped outside, the snow had stopped falling but it already left the whole city covered with it.
Shen Zichen then brought her to one of the luxurious restaurants nearby and followed the staff that escorted them to their booth, her high heels clicking on the shiny marbled floor of the establishment. Li Chuntao couldn't remember when was the last time she was in a restaurant as fancy as this.
Once she was seated, she quickly reached for the glass of water that was provided. Her thirst was forgotten when she saw Lin Meirong earlier. Li Chuntao took a big gulp and almost spat out when she heard Shen Zichen order a bottle of wine for the two of them.
Since their first night together seven years ago, she knew that Shen Zichen had avoided all alcoholic drinks so why was he drinking one now?
She smiled slightly and turned her gaze out the large window. Li Chuntao wasn't sure what was in his mind when he looked at her but she couldn't deny the love and satisfaction she'd seen in his eyes.
The snow was starting to fall again outside which reminded her of her baby. Li Zirui was born dead during a bad snowstorm and she spent days in the hospital grieving over her loss.
She'd always liked the snow. It was beautiful, magnificent, though the coldness of it wasn't something she particularly liked. She and Ying used to play with the snow in the garden of the Li Mansion when they were younger. There were also times when Shen Zichen and Shen Yuyan helped them build a snowman using twigs and stones they could find around them.
"I remember we used to compete who's better at making a snowman," Shen Zichen suddenly said as if he knew what was running through her mind.
"You remember?" Li Chuntao turned her head to look at him, seeing him laugh behind his glass.
He hummed and looked outside.
"You and Yuyan used to annoy me, but it always ended up being me doing all the tasks while the two of you supervise." He said.
"While Ying was picking up the flowers our Aunt especially took care of."
Their order arrived and they both ate in silence. And so dinner went on like that until Shen Zichen paid for their bill and asked her what she wanted to do next as soon as they stepped outside the restaurant.
"It isn't that late yet. Would you like to do something else before I take you home?" He asked.
"Like what?"
"Anything you might want to do before our wedding. I'm sure there would be some things we might not be able to enjoy once we're married." Shen Zichen explained.
"Is that so? I haven't thought of that. Perhaps you think I would bore you to death as your punishment." Li Chuntao said in a flat voice but still made Shen Zichen laugh. How can he forget that he was allowing her to punish him?
"No, of course not. Simply being next to you is enough for me."
Li Chuntao considered it for a moment before taking his gloved hand with hers. A huge smile began to bloom on her beautiful face, making Shen Zichen hold his breath.
"Brother Zichen, let's make a snowman together," she grinned.
If there was something Shen Zichen was sure he hadn't done for years, playing in the snow was on top of his list. They were both adults and snow had become something he admired, not played with.
So then why was he out there in the middle of a cold evening with his fiancée in an empty park?
But he really couldn't complain, could he? After all, he'd never said no to her before.
His eyes refused to drift from her as she stared at the dark sky, watching the snowflakes float around them. For the first time since Li Xiuying's death, Li Chuntao felt her heart at peace.
Shen Zichen couldn't find the will to speak, so mesmerized by her peaceful gaze heavenward. So he said nothing; watched as the snowflakes gently kissed her cheeks, her lips puffing out a cloud of air as she breathed with her long tresses softly blown by the cold wind.
Li Chuntao then remembered the purpose of why they were there and pulled Shen Zichen with her.
"Zichen, hurry. We should finish before the snow starts to fall heavier," she said.
Shen Zichen glanced around the park, pleased that there was no one around to see two adults trying to make a snowman. He wasn't sure if he wanted to do something so tedious but the way his fiancée was smiling at him, clearly happy that she could make it with him made it impossible for him to decline.
And so he decided to make the best snowman ever to impress his future wife. Only that Li Chuntao had a different plan from his.
The moment Shen Zichen finished one big snowman with a mini version of it, he was proud of his creation. He was so busy admiring his work that he didn't realize the sphere of snow that was coming straight for his face and had been caught off guard when he felt coldness and wetness hitting his face.
It wasn't until he heard Li Chuntao's burst of laughter did he realize what had happened. This witch! Wasn't she the one who said they should make a snowman? But she didn't even extend a hand to help him to build one and instead busied herself making smaller snowballs on the ground.
"Gotcha," The wicked witch grinned evilly to him.
The look on his face was so priceless she couldn't stop herself from doubling back from laughter. The way his eyes widened and jaw dropped made her attempt so worth it.
This was one of the rare times Shen Zichen saw her being playful.
"Oh, no, you didn't!" He knelt on the ground and made a snowball before throwing it at her.
Li Chuntao's eyes widened and evaded his attack only to be hit by the second one. And so a battle between the couple ensued as neither of them accepted defeat against the other one.
It was only when Li Chuntao panted for breath and was slumped on the ground did Shen Zichen cease his attacks. He sat beside her, facing the two snowmen he made earlier.
"Why're there two?" She asked curiously. One snowman was taller than the other.
"The snowman would be lonely being alone, so I made him a partner," Shen Zichen said.
Li Chuntao chuckled and shook her head before making a smaller version of a snowman.
"Here, now at least he has a family of his own," she added and leaned her head on Shen Zichen's arm as she looked at their masterpiece.
Shen Zichen glanced at her face before returning his gaze to the snowman. Yes, now he wasn't alone anymore. Seeing the baby snowman Li Chuntao made reminded him of their own baby.
"Chuntao?"
"Yes?" She asked without breaking her gaze to the snowman.
"Can you tell me more about Zirui?"
