Kill the Sun

Chapter 749: Destabilizing an Empire

The three Heroes quickly escorted Nick to the Containment Unit.

"Open it!" Nick ordered aggressively.

The CEO of the company quickly complied, activating the procedure.

"Faster!" Nick shouted.

"It can't go any faster!" the CEO shouted nervously. "There's a safety mechanism! It takes five minutes to open!"

"You think I'm stupid?!" Nick shouted. "You think I don't know about Aegis?! You just want to waste time so that Aegis arrives!"

BANG!

Nick punched the CEO through a wall and destroyed half of his Zephyx!

"If Aegis arrives, I will kill you before they can kill me!" Nick shouted. "Don't fuck with me!"

"It really doesn't go faster!" the Governor shouted, carefully walking closer to Nick like he was trying to calm him down.

Nick threw a hate-filled glance at the Governor.

"You're dead if you mess with me!"

It had been over a century since the Governor had been this scared.

"I swear! I'm not!" he shouted.

Naturally, the Governor had called for help, but after he realized the gravity of the situation, he rescinded the call for help.

He wasn't about to sacrifice his life so that Aegis could capture a random Specter!

For several tense minutes, everyone waited in front of the Containment Unit.

Finally, it opened, and Nick saw the Specter.

'A Force Specter, just as expected,' Nick thought as he looked at the cloud of aphrodisiac.

As soon as the doors opened, the faces of all the Heroes turned red, and they started to breathe heavily.

"New orders from Lord Lust," Nick transmitted to the Specter.

The Specter was just about to run wild in the city when it heard Nick's transmission.

As a Force Specter, it wasn't very intelligent, and the fear that Lust had put into the Specter made it compliant with Nick's orders.

"Gotta find a way to deal with this," Nick grumbled with hatred.

Then, he turned to the Heroes. "You're lucky you complied. You get to live another day."

Nick didn't wait for their answer and immediately shot out of the building.

Intimidated by the name of Lord Lust, the Force Specter followed.

Within seconds, the city lost all sight of the two Specters.

Everyone was still in shock.

One of their Heroes had been killed, and the strongest Specter of their city was taken away.

The Heroes looked at each other.

It was impossible to keep this secret.

They had to come clean with Aegis and hope that they only had to do guard duty for a couple of years.

If they didn't say anything, they would definitely be killed.

Meanwhile, Nick flew to an isolated location with the Specter.

Despite his immense power, he still didn't have a good way to deal with a Force Specter.

Force Specters were Nick's weakness.

"Wait here," Nick ordered the Force Specter with a voice transmission before leaving.

The Force Specter did just that, and Nick entered the closest stronghold again.

He contacted Aegis and told them to pick the Specter up.

Every servant of a Corruptor was killed, but that didn't necessarily hold true for Force Specters.

Force Specters were simply too dumb to have true loyalty, and they also couldn't even contact any Corruptor since they couldn't make Greater Relays.

'Would be a waste to feed this to the Crimson Sea,' Nick thought. 'Just send a pair of lovers to work with it, and you get a bunch of Zephyx.'

Nick went back to the Specter and told it to comply with the humans who were about to arrive.

Lord Lust wanted it to be captured, just like the last time it had been captured.

When the team of Agents arrived to suppress the Specter, Nick was already gone.

Naturally, the Specter complied and was taken to Aegis' stronghold.

It would be used to train Heroes.

'And now, it's time to vanish for a while,' Nick thought.

He wanted news of what happened to spread.

Just getting rid of one of Lust's cities wasn't enough.

Nick wanted Lust to know who was responsible.

After dealing with the first city, Nick went to the suppressed Adversary beneath Crimson City.

He spent about half a year learning from it before leaving and paying a visit to the secret team of scientists.

By now, they had gotten the prototype to work, and they could essentially create a small star.

Sadly, they could only keep it going for a tiny fraction of a second.

The minuscule amount of Star Energy they managed to harvest almost immediately turned into Prephyx again.

However, it was a step forward.

After all, they managed to actually create Star Energy!

But there was still a lot left to do.

In order for the Seeds to work, they needed a constant supply of Star Energy.

This meant that the scientists needed to be able to keep Star Energy stable, and they needed to be able to produce it in large amounts.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

They also needed a way to store it in a mobile manner.

This would take years.

After visiting the scientists, Nick went out to search for another city controlled by Lust.

Due to the manner in which Nick was dealing with the cities, he couldn't attack one that was too powerful.

Eventually, he found one, and the terrifying Specter returned.

This time, Nick killed two Heroes, but he kept the Governor alive so that he could open the Containment Unit.

Nick subdued the Specter with an aggressive laugh and pulled it out of the city by its tentacles.

He said that he wanted to vent his anger without Aegis breathing down his neck.

As soon as they were alone, Nick put Zephyx Suppressors around the Specter and pulled it to Aegis' headquarters.

"Welcome back, special Agent!" the two guards shouted respectfully as Nick carried a huge Specter Cage.

The guards opened the main gate, which was only opened when something huge had to go into the headquarters.

Nick stepped through and went deep into the underground.

The hallway he was in led to the research and development department, but instead of going there, he entered another hallway.

The hallway was almost two kilometers long, and at the end was a humongous gate.

Nick activated his Barrier, which granted him entry.

The gate very slowly opened, and Nick saw a red glow filling the room behind it.

There were several huge walls in front of Nick, but the walls didn't reach the ceiling.

He pulled his perception back and closed his eyes.

Then, he opened the Specter Cage and pulled the tentacle-filled Specter out.

Since the Specter was still surrounded by Zephyx Suppressors, it was helpless.

Nick threw the Specter over the high walls into the crimson light.

Some seconds later, Nick heard a splash, and a wave of dense Zephyx washed over him.

On the other side of the wall was an enormous body of crimson liquid.

The surface of the liquid was covered in eyes, long hands, and screaming ghosts.

Naturally, this was the Crimson Sea.

It had become quite a bit more powerful within the last decades.

By now, it had become a Late Demon.

'That's dealt with,' Nick thought as he walked out of the room.

Only when the gate closed did Nick's nervousness calm down.

The Crimson Sea was still terrifying, and Nick might have died if he actually looked at it.

Luckily, it was safely contained in its gigantic Containment Chamber.

Its growth was also no longer an issue since the Technician could just dig deeper into the ground below it to expand its Containment Unit.

While the Crimson Sea was only about three kilometers wide, it was already over ten kilometers deep.

It would be more appropriate to call this thing a well instead of a sea at this point.

Next, Nick went back to the contained Adversary for another six months of learning.

This pattern repeated for another two years.

Nick was now 82 years old, and he had just advanced to becoming an Early Demon.

'Took me about eight years this time,' Nick thought. 'However, that's still extremely fast.'

'The suffering I am causing is also helping me advance.'

Naturally, while Nick essentially helped the people in Lust's cities in the long term, his involvement caused immense suffering in the short term.

The economy of the cities was turned on its head, and many policy changes took place, spreading a lot of fear and nervousness about the future.

Nick quickly searched for another city, and when the terrifying Specter made a fifth appearance, he knew that phase two of his plan was complete.

Nick knew that because the Heroes of this city basically didn't even resist.

While they didn't greet him with open arms, it was clear that they knew about him.

The terrifying Specter had gotten a reputation, and different cities knew about it.

Whenever it appeared, the city just needed to hand Lust's servant over, and everyone would be allowed to continue living.

Naturally, this reputation put the humans who were secretly working with Lust on edge.

When this Specter appeared, the city's collaboration with Lust would be exposed, and there was basically no way to hide anymore.

While Nick had only dealt with five cities, the reputation of the terrifying Specter caused many difficulties in several cities.

What if the Specter came to their city?

If that happened, the people working with Lust would die to Aegis!

Lust found it much harder to gain human followers, and it knew exactly why that was.

It was that angry Specter!

This single Demon was destabilizing its entire empire!

It had to deal with that Specter!
