Infinite Paths: The Raging Phoenix

"Well, this was disappointing…" Rain said when the second day in the library ended. "I am starting to think that we won't find what we need here."

"You still have the coral that you took, right?" Seadir asked. "Why don't you use that?"

"I am looking for a more definitive solution to our problem," Rain said while rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "I guess only dragons would have the knowledge that I am looking for, but they don't even try to talk with me."

Dragons considered themselves to be at the pinnacle of the natural order, and this perception was grounded in several obvious factors. Their longevity and immense power set them apart from other species, and as a result, they often viewed themselves as superior beings. This self-assuredness was bolstered by their age-old traditions, history and sense of pride.

This belief in their inherent superiority often led dragons to isolate themselves from other species. They were content with their own company and didn't see the need for interactions or alliances with what they perceived as lesser beings.

However, such isolation also meant that they might have missed out on potential opportunities for collaboration and understanding with the other species of their world.

"Shall we go home then?" Seara asked.

That seemed like the best option, even though Seara only wanted to go because she was tired of the library. In the end, he just nodded, and then they left. They paid a visit to Seadrei to let him see Sealyn once more.

"It seems that you didn't find the answers that you wanted," Seadrei said while holding his granddaughter in his arms. "Still, I am curious about this spell that you call a dungeon. I can't imagine things ending well if such a thing is cast on the ocean since our waters have a lot of mana."

"Unfortunately, the people that wrote those books didn't like the past very much, nor did they try to research it, so we didn't find much," Rain said. "Still, I wouldn't say that this trip was completely useless. I will talk with Branden and Esmeralda next time since while our history isn't as vast as yours, we have more things registered."

Unfortunately, Rain was almost certain that Joanis predicted that something like that could happen and probably made sure to get rid of any books that people could use against him.

Speaking of which, Rain assumed that Joanis found an ancient civilization or lost technology in the southern ocean by accident, but that didn't make any sense considering the figure that Rain saw… did that guy just gave Joanis some knowledge that would make him take over half of the world in a few years? Something didn't add up.

"While I won't deny that we probably don't have much faith in our history, even more so considering that this spear could be something stolen, it is also a fact that something like written language wasn't something that spread back then," Seadrei said.

"I suppose so," Rain shrugged. "Anyway, we are going. Until later."

Seadrei realized Rain had also evolved his initial path, but he noticed that the surge of power and vigor didn't get to his head. Thanks to it, Seadrei felt kike sighing since that youth proved once more that he was wise beyond his years.

When they returned home, Rain found that a bunch of warriors had bruised eyes… it seemed that the training didn't show much result, and Terra had to punch a bunch of them, and she didn't hold back trying to stop them.

"Didn't you learn anything?" Terra asked and then sighed after looking at them. "What now?"

"This exercise was something I came up with in case we didn't learn what we wanted," Rain said. "I hadn't given up yet, but this should help. They had four months to show some results."

Rain went to talk with his friends and also told them that he didn't get anything that could help their exploration on the dungeons. Still, they looked fine since the dungeon gave them a daily challenge that was hard to find, and they could feel themselves getting stronger. Roan seemed the most interested in that since it was a good chance for him to catch up with his son.

Unfortunately, while he was on the fifth floor, Rain was getting two times more experience on the sixth.

"So, you didn't learn much, huh?" Branden asked when Rain arrived in his office and told the last events to him.

"Yep… by the way, where is Esmeralda?" Rain asked while looking around. "You guys usually work in the throne room."

"She is feeling a bit under the weather lately, and I convinced her to take a few days off after you guys managed to stop the dungeons," Branden explained and then let out a sigh. "I did some research about what you asked, but as expected, a bunch of books are missing from the royal library. I take it that the spearman that you killed got rid of the books after the king left in that war."Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Rain didn't know if Branden was trying to just change the topic for no apparent reason or because of something else. While Esmeralda wasn't that strong, she trained and learned magic boost as well, so she should be healthier than most… unless the reason for her feeling under the weather is something else, like a child.

Branden didn't seem to realize that, or maybe he didn't want to. Either way, while those were supposed to be some joyous news, things got better in the recent months after they repelled the invasion, but it seemed that Branden was worried that their kid could get in danger. It was understandable…

"It wouldn't be the first time that Joanis caused us problems after death," Rain said. "Anyway, we just have to keep working, and eventually, we will learn what we need. We still have one more thing to check and then we will be crossing unknown waters forever, but it will be fine."
