Chapter 1190: Dragonite in Critical Condition
Chapter 1190: Dragonite in Critical Condition
Just two days after telling Yuga that he was returning to Kanto, Windy left with Great Flygon.
Verdanturf Town's summer is a rainy season; one moment, the sun shines brightly, and the next, the sky may be covered with dark clouds.
Sure enough, just as the aircraft carrying Windy took off from Verdanturf Town, a heavy rain began to pour. Fist-sized raindrops fell in torrents, accompanied by thunder and lightning in the sky, while pedestrians on the street screamed, scrambling to find shelter.
Yuga stepped to the doorway and saw Clefairy pulling Mime Jr. as they ran quickly under the porch, laughing as they ran as if the rain was something fun for them.
Aside from them, many of the Pokémon on patrol around the YoYo Day Care rushed under the porch to avoid the rain. In no time, the porch outside Yuga's shop was filled with Pokémon—Arcanine, Linoone , Mightyena, Liepard...
It was a similar scene at the entrances of other homes.
Verdanturf Town is home to many Grass-type Pokémon, as nearly every household raises them, and Grass-types don't mind the summer rain; some even enjoy the coolness after the recent heat, rushing out into the downpour to bathe in the refreshing showers.
However, as the rain grew stronger, some of the more delicate Grass-types became disheveled, drenched as soon as they stepped into the rain. Yuga even saw several Oddish with wilted leaves on their heads, hastily running back home while slipping and sliding, bringing laughter from their owners.
"Clefairy, Clefairy!"
"Miiime!"
Clefairy and Mime Jr. saw this scene too, clutching their stomachs as they laughed at the Grass-types spinning in the rain. They amused Yuga and some customers stuck at the doorway as well.
Yuga initially thought that such a heavy rain would pass quickly, but the thunder grew louder and the rain showed no signs of letting up.
He frowned as he looked up at the sky, but the rain was so heavy that his view was blurred, making it hard to see far.
For some reason, Yuga suddenly felt that today's heavy rain seemed unusual.
His intuition was correct. At that moment, high above Verdanturf, his Dragonite was "summoning clouds and rain."
Dragonite used Dragon Dance and spinning rapidly within the thick clouds. The air currents generated by its high-speed flight pulled the rain clouds closer, concentrating them around it, while thunder and lightning gathered within the clouds.
Electricity crackled around Dragonite, illuminating the surrounding clouds in a golden hue, as if resonating with the natural lightning in the clouds.
As more clouds gathered around it, more lightning was drawn in, making the thunder over Verdanturf Town louder and louder, further convincing Yuga that something was off with today's rainstorm.
Wanting to check the situation despite the rain, Yuga sent Linoone and Mightyena to fetch Dragonite, but they couldn't find any trace of it after a while.
At this moment, Gothitelle and Audino came over to inform Yuga that Dragonite had left earlier and had not yet returned.
Yuga thought to himself, Could this rainstorm have something to do with Dragonite?
For its training, Dragonite indeed has the habit of absorbing natural lightning during summer storms. With this thought, Yuga became more certain that the rain was related to Dragonite.
Since it was a storm caused by Dragonite, there was nothing to worry about, so Yuga decided to go about his day as usual.
Attracted by the massive amount of Electric-type energy, a large number of Magnemite and Magneton gradually gathered near the clouds above. Like Dragonite, Magnemite and Magneton in the wild also have the habit of absorbing natural lightning during thunderstorms.
Although the Magnemite and Magneton were eager for the abundant Electric-type energy within the clouds, they hesitated to act due to the intimidating pressure emanating from within.
Due to Dragonite's influence, while the clouds thundered and rain poured below, not a single bolt of lightning actually descended. The Magnemite and Magneton could only look up at the clouds "longingly."
These Magnemite and Magneton were actually familiar with Dragonite in the clouds, as they often encountered each other during thunderstorms near Verdanturf. After meeting a few times, they naturally became acquainted.
In the past, while Dragonite had a big appetite, it always left a bit of energy for the others to enjoy. Dragonite would let just a little spill out, which was enough for these small hangers-on like Magnemite and Magneton to take in.
But this time, for some reason, Dragonite was suddenly acting very domineering, and that wasn't a good sign. If it continued like this, how were they supposed to survive?
Gradually, the Magnemite and Magneton began to get restless.
Within the storm clouds, as Dragonite's Dragon Dance reached its peak, its aura intensified to the max.
"Roar!"
Now the rain clouds had gathered into a funnel shape. Dragonite flew above the clouds, let out an energized roar, then opened its mouth to start absorbing the lightning.
Boom!
Crackle!
A massive suction came from Dragonite's mouth, causing all the lightning to go berserk. The previously dark clouds gradually turned golden, and the gathered Magnemite and Magneton couldn't withstand the storm's violent electricity, backing away in terror for fear of being shocked to pieces.
Even though they were Electric-types, they couldn't handle such a violent surge of electricity.
Dragonite, however, remained unfazed by the storm of lightning. Large amounts of electricity poured into its body, which seemed like a bottomless pit, never filling up.
As it absorbed more and more lightning, Dragonite's aura grew stronger, reaching the critical threshold between the Elite and Champion levels.
Clearly, Dragonite was pushing to reach the Champion level.
Back at the shop, Yuga resumed his work when he suddenly remembered that today the system shop had refreshed, and he hadn't checked it yet.
Refreshing the system shop was something Yuga did daily. Although he hadn't encountered any rare treasures, the refresh section often had useful items. Sometimes it offered materials for making high-quality Pokéblocks or incense, rare evolution items, or valuable sheds from rare Pokémon...
Yuga skillfully opened the system shop, and his attention was immediately drawn to a purple box on the screen.
Did I step on a lucky charm today? Or am I seeing things? This is a purple item!
That was Yuga's first reaction upon seeing the purple box.
After slapping his cheeks twice to confirm he wasn't hallucinating, Yuga began to examine the item.
It was a fist-sized purple orb, faintly surrounded by an aura of treasure. At first glance, he could tell it was something valuable.
[ Dragon Ball ]
[ Description: A sacred item for Dragon-types, a powerful supplement for Dragon-type Pokémon. ]
This was the system's only description of the purple item.
Yuga was used to the system's cryptic explanations about items in the shop, but he was still puzzled. How did a purple item suddenly appear? This doesn't make sense; have I finally hit a stroke of luck?
While purple items weren't as rare as gold ones, Yuga hadn't seen many in all these years.
Although rare, purple items also came at a steep price. This single Dragon Ball was priced at three million!
Fine, three million it is—Yuga didn't mind the expense and bought it on the spot.
The only problem now was whether to use it for Dragonite or Shelgon. This left Yuga in a dilemma; both of them were equally important to him.
Oh well, he'd decide later.
Since he couldn't make a decision right away, he chose to put it aside for now. It wasn't urgent, so Yuga adopted an ostrich mentality and went back to work.
Dragonite absorbed every bit of lightning from the clouds, successfully breaking through to the Champion level.
After breaking through, Dragonite used the Hurricane move, summoning a massive tornado that instantly scattered the dark clouds in the sky.
With the clouds dispersed and the rain gone, the sky above Verdanturf Town quickly became clear and bright.
For some reason, Dragonite suddenly felt a slight discomfort when it used Hurricane, something that didn't feel quite right. However, it brushed off the odd sensation.
Noticing the rain had stopped, Yuga walked to the shop entrance. The sun was shining brightly, and the street was bustling with people again. He smiled and went back inside.
As Dragonite prepared to head home after its successful breakthrough, the gathered Magnemite and Magneton crowded around, displeased with Dragonite for monopolizing all the lightning. They demanded an explanation.
Dragonite laughed at their complaints. In the natural world, lightning belonged to no one; whoever could take it was its owner. Since it had seized it, it was rightfully his—why should these others be whining about it?
Seeing that they couldn't resolve the issue peacefully, the Magnemite and Magneton quickly assumed an aggressive stance. They all lived in this area, and if they didn't deal with Dragonite, life would be tough for them here in the future.
In an instant, Dragonite was surrounded by hundreds of Magnemite and Magneton.
Seeing their ingratitude, Dragonite became furious. Without waiting for them to attack, it swung its Dragon Claw at them.
As it swung, that strange feeling returned, but Dragonite was too occupied dealing with the swarm to notice.
The Magnemite and Magneton retaliated with Spark attacks, but the electricity did not harm Dragonite—instead, it replenished it. Meanwhile, Dragonite's Dragon Claw sent them flying with a series of loud clanging sounds.
Dragonite who is now a Champion-level Pokémon, faced little challenge from the small fry, even though they numbered in the hundreds. It didn't take long to deal with most of them.
However, as time passed, Dragonite could no longer ignore the strange sensation in its body. The stiffness it felt while using its moves grew worse, and a few times, the moves even stopped mid-way.
What was going on?
Half an hour later...
Yuga was helping Ayaka attend to customers in the shop when Spoink suddenly told him that Dragonite had returned. He rushed outside and saw Dragonite indeed standing at the door.
The moment he saw Dragonite, Yuga sensed something was off about its aura, so he quickly activated his Insight skill.

"Dragonite, you've broken through!" Yuga exclaimed in delight.
Since Dragonite had successfully advanced, Yuga decided to keep the Dragon Ball for Shelgon.
Just as Dragonite was about to share its joy with Yuga, it lifted a claw to wave in greeting—but suddenly lost consciousness.
Thud!
Dragonite collapsed, falling straight to the ground.
"Dragonite!" Yuga shouted, rushing over, fearing that something was wrong. Yet, after a thorough check, he found Dragonite to be physically healthy.
With no other choice, Yuga quickly took Dragonite to the Pokémon Center for Nurse Joy's examination to determine the issue.
The results came in swiftly.
"The reason your Dragonite fainted," Joyka explained carefully, "is due to an energy imbalance in its body. Dragonite is a Dragon- and Flying-type, but its Dragon- and Flying-type energies are currently suppressed by a powerful Electric-type energy."
Before reaching the Champion level, Dragonite's internal energy was balanced. However, breaking through with the aid of lightning disrupted this balance, resulting in the current problem.
Although Dragonite had gained Electric-type talents thanks to the Yellow Orb, it was still primarily a Dragon- and Flying-type Pokémon. If the Electric-type energy severely overpowers the Dragon- and Flying-type energies, it could significantly hinder Dragonite's future growth.
"Is there a way to fix this?" Yuga asked with a frown.
Nurse Joy thought for a moment and replied, "There is, and it's quite straightforward—just restore the Dragonite's Dragon- and Flying-type energies to balance. But..."
Yuga understood her hesitation. Dragonite's Electric-type energy had already reached Champion level, so restoring its Dragon- and Flying-type energies wasn't as simple as it sounded; it would be very challenging.
He instinctively thought of the Dragon Ball he'd obtained today. He had wondered why it suddenly appeared, but now he realized it was waiting for this moment!
He figured it out—his system seemed to prioritize the well-being of his Pokémon over his own. When Kartana was hatching, the system had provided Essence Liquid, and now, for Dragonite, the Dragon Ball. The system always provided assistance when his Pokémon were in dire need.
I must be just a tool, Yuga thought wryly to himself.
The Dragon Ball could restore Dragonite's Dragon-type energy, but what about the Flying-type energy? Yuga sighed, feeling another headache coming on.
When Yuga entered Dragonite's hospital room, it had already woken up, though it lay weakly on the bed, looking up at him with a soft murmur.
"Dragonite, are you feeling any better?" Yuga asked, concerned.
Dragonite shook its head, feeling incredibly heavy, unable to muster any strength.
"Going for a breakthrough without telling me—look at the trouble now," Yuga said gently, patting Dragonite's back. He wasn't really scolding it; he hadn't considered this situation himself. It just made him feel sad.
"Drago..." Dragonite murmured softly, flapping its small wings on its back, and even tried to act a bit spoiled, hoping to brush off the situation.
Yuga couldn't help but laugh, giving it a few pats. He then took out the Dragon Ball from his system's storage. But as he looked at it, he was stumped—the system hadn't explained how to use it!
Should Dragonite wear it, or grind it into powder to consume?
