Chapter 160: 159. Record stone
"The people that followed us here formed a gang called the Black Viper Gang when they followed us here. The strongest amongst them is a man named Van.
He is a first-grade fighter with a magic artifact sword that has powerful poison properties and is specialized in swift and quick swordsmanship."
"All of our resources that we store long-term are also kept inside their base. It was saved for when we eventually graduate and have to leave the area, but now…."
Hearing this, Lucius's eyes seemed to shine, but he quickly realized something. "You told me where it is, but you didn't tell me how you're going to hand it over to me?"
Hearing this, Tyler showed a look of fear but eventually spoke up. "I can only help you this much. Those guys are our followers, not our servants. They chose to follow us because they believed that by following us to the capital, they could get more resources and advance as fighters.
If I told them to hand over the resources to you, I'm afraid the first thing they would do would be to gather those very same resources, split them amongst themselves, and disappear off the face of the earth."
Hearing this, Lucius's face turned a little ugly.
"So you are telling me that I have to solve all these guys and eventually take all these resources for myself? If so, what's the use in even keeping you two around?"
The second Lucius said these words, the air seemed to chill. Chris, who had barely said a word until now, finally spoke.
"What more do you want? We gave you everything we had. Even now, we can't offer you anything anymore. Just kill us and get it over with."
As Lucius heard this, he just showed a cruel smile.
"Although it would be possible to end your misery now, it's unfortunate that I won't be able to because I still have some uses for the pair of you."
As Lucius spoke, he pulled out a fist-sized crystal sphere, and as he did so, a video started to be played on the crestfallen ball. Seeing this, Chris's eyes nearly popped out of his sockets.
"A-a record stone!"
The two brothers watched on stunned as a familiar scene played out in front of them. It was the scene of the two brothers walking down the streets of the slums as they openly discussed their plans to have Lucius assassinated and killed. The two brothers saw this and instantly went pale.
Seeing this look on their faces, Lucius couldn't help but smile as he spoke.
"Although your Heroic families are quite crooked, you still seem to value your reputation in the world very much. What do you think would happen to you if I showed this to the board at Sanctuary?"
Neither Chris nor Tyler dared to speak, but Lucius could clearly see the last traces of hope in their eyes completely shatter and disappear. Lucius didn't need to explain the consequences; they knew it better than anyone else.
Now they had basically sold out all their followers and organizations that they had built in the previous years they had stayed in the Imperial Capital and Sanctuary. They were left with nothing. The only thing they currently had was the status of a Sanctuary student.
If Lucius went public with this piece of evidence, they would really have nothing left. No, it would be even worse than that.
To maintain their perfect image, the Montford family would brutally crackdown and deal with them. Remember, the Heroic families and the church were tending towards what could only be described as a Cold War. They couldn't afford any screw-ups right now.
Hell, even amongst the Heroic families, they weren't a homogenous and united group; their fights nearly rivalled those between the Imperial family and the church itself. Those enemies wouldn't hesitate to take the opportunity to hurt and damage the Montford family. This was truly their lifeline.
If they didn't want to give up the Montford family name, they would have to listen to exactly what lucius said.
After brutally torturing them to gain all they had, this despicable bastard still wasn't planning to let them off and still squeeze some use out of them. If Tyler could go back in time, his first action would be to strangle his past self to death for even having the thought to mess with this sick bastard.
What sort of monster was this?!
If Lucius knew Tyler's thoughts, he wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry.
He had successfully established his image in the paid mind as someone who couldn't afford to be disobeyed at any cost, but now they saw him as some sort of sick and twisted bastard! Fortunately for them, Lucius couldn't read minds.
Looking at the two brothers, Lucius slowly spoke.
"You two brothers should know your situation well by now. You have no choice. Follow my wishes and do what I tell you to, and it will be like this video never existed in the first place."
Tyler and Chris looked at each other, and each saw the contempt in the other's eyes, knowing they had one bottom line they had to keep.
Regaining some of his backbone, Tyler looked Lucius in the eyes and spoke.
"It's okay for us to follow your orders, but we tell you this now: If you order us to do anything that will harm the interests of or betray the Montford family, even if you tortured us for eternity, we will never agree!"
Lucius heard this and was a little surprised.
He saw that even Chris, who had a much smaller backbone compared to Tyler, showed a surprising level of integrity in the face of these words.
Lucius was almost impressed!
'Tch! I guess the Montford family didn't raise these two bastards in vain after all.'
Of course, Lucius didn't believe these young men truly had iron bones.
If he truly wanted them to turn traitor, Lucius didn't think they would be able to withstand his, or more accurately, Camilla's methods of persuasion.
