Chapter 154: 154. Speak of the devil
"If those guys are stupid enough to leave Sanctuary and even enter the outer city, something interesting will definitely happen today."
Hearing this, Ryan tilted his head to the side in confusion. Lucius didn't explain completely things to him and just spoke cryptically.
"Don't worry, you won't miss out. If something interesting happens, I'll call you beforehand."
Ryan didn't understand the full thing, but if Lucius was so confident, he didn't feel like there was a need to worry. After all, despite being just a commoner, he had already beaten two second years that were descendants of a famed Heroic Family. It was clear that he was anything but ordinary.
Lucius and Ryan talked for a while longer, no longer about the Montford family and those two twins, but about life at Sanctuary in the 2nd year that Ryan was in and notable people to watch out for.
Their conversation continued pleasantly for a while longer before Ryan decided to leave. Lucius could see the man was too excited to go back and start training in earnest. It was probably like a man who had been forced to drive around at 20 mph his entire life being taken to the autobahn. He would go wild!
Shortly after Ryan left, Lucius also headed back to his dorm. Even though Lucius looked down on the pair of twins, he still had to prepare after all. As Lucius was walking, a shadowy figure quietly manifested to his side. But now that Lucius had acquired the Master Assassin talent, he was no longer surprised and knew who this was straight away and spoke calmly.
"Camilla, tell Reina to get ready and prepare to follow me to the outer city tonight. We're going on a walk."
"Yes, Young Leader," Camilla didn't question or ask about Lucius's orders, but there was a bright glint in her purple eyes.
...
Time passed by at Sanctuary, and the burning sun in the sky set as night came out to cover the world. By now, most students were in their dorms, but if you looked closely, you could see a pair of burly figures sneaking off campus.
The two figures moved through the dimly illuminated night streets of the capital, passing through the boundaries that separated the inner and outer sections of the capital, walking closer and closer to the section even the imperial guards would cast a blind eye to.
The slums. Home to gangs, crooks, and shadowy factions that even the Imperial family didn't deem worth messing with. The only people that lived here were people with bad intentions or those that couldn't afford to leave. As the two figures were walking through the slums, one of them finally couldn't take it any longer after one of his feet stepped in a pile of unknown black mush.
"Fuck! It's so fucking disgusting!"
"Shut up, Chris," scolded Tyler, the more mature of the two twins. "You knew what we would pass by when we came here. It's gonna be worth it after all. Don't tell me you're having second thoughts now?"
"Of course not," replied Chris in a cold voice. "That arrogant red-eyed commoner bastard! If it wasn't for the restrictions of Sanctuary, we wouldn't just be hiring assassins but strangle that guy to death with our own hands!"
"It's good that you still have sense," responded Tyler with a cruel smile on his face. "That bastard humiliated us and even got that piece of trash Ryan to turn against us. If we can't even deal with a commoner, we won't have the face to stand in the Montford family, much less the Sanctuary or the Empire as a whole!"
Suddenly, as Tyler was speaking, a sound came out from the group of shadows ahead.
"Clap! Clap! I really couldn't have said it better myself."
But Tyler wasn't pleased as the smile on his face quickly collapsed.
"Who is it!" asked Tyler with a gloomy look.
Instead of answering, the voice spoke again with a slight mocking tinge.
"Haven't you heard? Speak of the devil and…"
Slowly, a man walked out of the shadows. His tall and full physique looked straight ahead as his devilishly handsome face curled into an evil smile.
"Well, he doth appear."
Seeing the figure in front of them, the eyes of Tyler and Chris almost burst with flames as they called with hatred dripping from their voices,
"Lucius!"
"You bastard, you dare show up here. Do you really think we can't do anything to you? This isn't Sanctuary; there are no rules here."
Hearing this, Lucius burst out laughing.
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it the two fools in front of me that lost earlier today?"
As Lucius said this, the faces of Chris and Tyler turned gloomier before twisting into vicious smiles.
"You may have won earlier, but like I said, this isn't Sanctuary."
Tyler just looked toward his brother and nodded before putting a glove on his right hand, while Chris put a glove on his left hand. Slowly, the gloves transformed into purple gauntlets with purple sparks of lightning flowing off them, making even Lucius feel a sense of danger.
Lucius's smile twitched for a second as his eyes narrowed.
"A magic artifact." An enchanted weapon that can boost the strength of both warriors and mages who wield it, while also granting magical abilities. The power of magic artifacts in this world should never be underestimated. The power of the most powerful families in the world also came from wielding a few very famous magic weapons and artifacts.
These would, of course, be the five holy weapons given by the goddess to the heroes!
Of course, this didn't mean that all magic weapons were equal, but in such a world, looking down on magic weapons was simply a foolish thing to do. The way Lucius looked at the two twin brothers finally changed.
'I guess even idiots bold enough to deal with criminals would have something that gave them some confidence.'
