Chapter 163 Cleanup (3)
Done. Wonderful how that only took four hours. Saved quite a lot of time, don't you think?
'I... forget it.' Michael was about to protest but decided against it. It was indeed faster, with the added bonus of pain, of course.
But now that it was over, it was finally time for him to head back into the city—specifically, to the domes he had left behind.
He was not too worried, as they should technically be fine. None of the domes were damaged to the point of being hazardous. At most, there were a few scratches, ones that would likely disappear over time due to the nature of mana.
Nonetheless, he headed back, flying at full speed until he finally arrived in front of the first dome.
There was another one not too far away. Therefore, he positioned himself in the very middle of the two and cast Purify.
Immediately, a bright golden light escaped from his body. Similarly to Sanctuary, it began covering the entire area around him, 1,000 meters in every direction.
Finally, it reached the 1,000-meter mark and disappeared. However, unlike before, the purple gasses that had filled the air were now completely gone. It looked as though he had cast an invisible barrier, blocking out everything from the outside.
But that was not the case—it was his Purify skill.
Michael nodded to himself at the successful sight and went ahead to cast it a few more times at different locations, ensuring he encompassed every single one of the domes.
He had roughly 30% of his mana left, meaning that, at the very least, he could clear a pathway for them. Using nearly all of his mana, he made calculated casts of Purify, ensuring he covered the maximum distance between each dome.
Due to how he cast the previous ones, he was able to chain them together, forming a pathway—one that led into a nearby forest that did not seem as bad as the rest of the city.
At the very least, they could begin walking out of here, maybe even start new lives—not that they had much of a choice anyway. Elarion was now an uninhabitable place, one that would likely be wiped off the map in a couple of weeks.
The purple mass from earlier had combined with the clouds, and, albeit slowly, it was expanding outward, meaning it could potentially reach the other cities.
But that had nothing to do with him anymore. He had done what he could to save the remaining citizens. Even if they wouldn't exactly be the same after this incident, it was better than being dead.
Michael glanced around a bit, making sure the forest was indeed safe to cross into, until finally, he flew back and dispelled the domes. There was a bit of uncertainty in his heart, but once he noticed that everyone remained fine even after he had done so, he felt relieved.
However, despite his previous thoughts, most of the people on the ground were looking at him with disdain. Some were even hurling curse words at him.
They think you are the one who caused that explosion. Frankly, they likely still think Jax was an innocent bystander you killed in an attempt to make it easier to kill everyone.
'...I see.'
It was disheartening to see the people he tried so hard to save openly ridicule him and call him all sorts of names.
Nonetheless, he would not hold it against them. The situation was completely out of his hands. It was a miracle he even managed to save a few.
But now that he had done all he could, it was time to head out.
Michael gave them one last bit of courtesy. Summoning a bunch of light swords, he shaped them into a massive arrow pointing directly to where they could safely leave the city.
He had done the same for the other areas, making sure to properly guide them, despite the fact that most probably hated him now.
The only alternative for them was to starve to death. Therefore, even if he was an enemy in their eyes, he was the only thing they had at the moment.
After a few minutes of flying around and creating those arrows, he was finally finished. Stay updated with empire
'Does it always feel this shitty?' Michael asked while heaving a sigh. Despite his best efforts, it felt like they were in vain.
The people would survive, at least most of them. However, in exchange, his name would be dragged through the mud by those same survivors—ones who will tell the public that the Saint of Vivum massacred an entire city.
It does indeed feel shitty, but who cares? You tried your best in an already unfavorable situation. It was a miracle you even managed to save a couple of them. If not for your interference, they would have died either way. That skill of theirs would have been the same if you had not killed Jax.
'The blob would have still destroyed the city? Doesn't it require control... to, you know, not go out of control?' Michael questioned with a puzzled look.
Their goal is to cause as much mayhem as possible. After making the spell go haywire, they would have injected their demonic core into it, further increasing its destructiveness. It was not a situation someone of your strength could deal with. Only Amanda would have been able to intervene, but alas, she's not here.
'Right. Is the elevator still there?' he asked with a tinge of hope, though he knew what had just happened made it very unlikely.
Nope. Spatial constructs are very fragile; that's why they were protected by all sorts of invisible barriers. Too bad they all got evaporated the moment they came into contact with such a large amount of mana.
'So that's it, then.' Michael glanced at the people who, although hesitantly, were now slowly moving in the direction of his golden arrows.
It was about time he headed out as well. After all, he still had to stop by the other continent. He just hoped it would not take too long to fly there—his speed had increased drastically right after the explosion hit. It was odd, but he did not mind it.
As for Amanda and Rebecca, for all he knew, they might have gone back to Vivum instead, or they were in some situation where they just did not have the time to come out.
But so long as Amanda was there, he was sure they would both remain fine.
Michael decided on his next two goals: one was to find Meph, and the other was to locate the portal Rebecca had mentioned. He was not sure how it even looked, but if she said he would know once he saw it, then it might not be as difficult as he thought.
He did want to make another stop before he left, though—to check what was happening above the clouds.
I don't think you should do that.
"Why not?" Michael asked as he began slowly floating upward.
The amount of demonic mana up there is enough to summon another demon, one much stronger than the rest you've fought. Unless you are suicidal, go back.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Isn't their strength limited?"
It is. However, are you confident in defeating something above Tier 3, likely even Tier 4, with your current skills and barely any mana? If you had Sanctuary, then sure, I would let you have a go at it. But as you can see, it is on cooldown.
Michael listened attentively until finally coming to a decision. "Next time, then... I don't want to throw away my life just yet."
With those thoughts, he began flying straight east, toward the Neutus continent. However, he could not shake off the foreboding feeling that something would go wrong.
'It always does...'
