Chapter 312 ~Their Time!~
"How was your day?" seated at the edge of the lake, Evelyn asked with a welcoming smile on her face. Despite knowing how many demons he blasted apart and how many times he breathed air, she still asked with a curious look on her face.
The look on her face prompted a smile on the mage's face as he sat down to narrate the events of his day.
"Don't you get bored sitting here alone all the time?" He asked, looking around and saw that there was not much to do in that place.
"At first, I used to be lonely. It was just that guy who would come to meet me once in a couple of years, but then I made a friend, who would come to talk to me from time to time. But after one day, she never came to visit me." Her eyes shone with a look of melancholy as she looked at the calm in the garden.
"That must have been tough…" Coming closer, the boy patted her head in a moment of daze. Evelyn froze in shock, feeling the unknown feeling over her head, but slowly she leaned into the caress without even realizing it.
"So what happened to the guy?" Despite wanting to ask about what happened to the woman, his mind spoke out with a mouth of its own. He could not ignore how she mentioned that there was a man who would come to visit him from time to time.
Hearing his words, Evelyn came out of her trance and looked at the mage. Blinking her eyes a couple of times, she realized what was happening.
'Is he jealous?! Waahh! He is jealous of someone for me! How cute~' In her thought, she started swaying from left to right, lost in the realm of happiness. But on the other hand, the mage was experiencing completely different emotions. He thought that the woman was thinking about the same man she was talking about.
He did not know why, but seeing that a fire started to blaze in his heart. A fire to meet this 'guy' and let his mind take care of whatever it could think of after seeing him.
"He is just a smelly old man. You should know about the world's will, right?" As if sensing the blazing dark emotions coming off of the man, she hurriedly explained without delay.
Hearing her words, the purple-haired mage sighed out loud in relief. He did not know why, but his feelings towards this old man stayed the same. Suddenly he shivered in disgust as a thought flashed through his mind.
'So it was this old man, who I would constantly sense looking at me. Even when I showered…. Ew, his gaze used to be so intense at that time. Who knows how long he had been keeping an eye on me… Thank god, I made that seal of invisibility a couple of hundred years ago and he could no longer see me.'
Seeing him nod, Evelyn continued with her explanation. "He would just come here to annoy me with whatever happened in the world. Like I cannot see what's happening in the world on my own."
"You can see what's happening in the world, just from here?" Hearing his innocent question, Evelyn acted like someone had stepped on an imaginary tail. Transparent yet fragrant liquid started to come out of her head as she started to think.
"That, yeah, but not as powerful as that old man, I can only focus on one point at a time with my current strength, but he can look around all the world at the same time without any problem." In the end, she chose to tell half-truth and half-lie in return, "I just looked around the world when I felt bored."
"Then did you find where your friend left to?"
"Yeah, I did.." Seeing that she had successfully diverted his attention from the topic, she started reminiscing. "She ran away from the continent because no one here accepted her relationship with a human."
"Ah, the elves hate to mix their bloodline with any other race." He nodded in understanding, "What happened to them later on?"
"She left the continent with the man and had a life with him. She broke all of her ties with the elven kingdom. With her identity as the high elf of the royal family with the purest bloodline, she was very talented in spirit magic."
"Is she related to the current king?"
"She was his older sister. That silly little brat had always been jealous of her. Maybe it was because of their sibling rivalry or the fact that she was more talented than him in spirit magic." As they talked about it, the more they got engrossed in their conversation. She started recalling the memories of the past as if everything had happened in the past couple of days.
"Was?" As if noticing something odd about the way she was talking about her friend, the mage could not help but ask about it.
"Yeah," With a sad smile on her face and a pained look in her eyes, Evelyn continued, "She died."

Silence dawned in the area as the two of them sat there without saying anything to each other. The boy did not know what to say in a situation like this. He also lost some friends without even knowing these past couple of years, but at that moment, he realized that he did not feel anything about their deaths.
This was also the reason he agreed to go on a journey with the hero party. He wanted to see if there was something wrong with him or just that he had lost the bond he had with them in the past.
"Wasn't she a powerful elf?" after a moment of silence, he asked, breaking the silence. She nodded, aware of what he wanted to imply.
"She was injured by her enemy… her husband… well, he died." After a moment of thinking, she replied. She bit her lips while looking at his side profile, her eyes moistened with a swirl of complex emotions.
"Is that so… you know, I wish I could say, I know how it feels to lose a friend, but I am not sure if I will ever know that feeling." He looked down, not daring to look that woman in her eyes, afraid she might think of him as an
emotionless puppet. "Maybe I never saw them as friends, or I am broke— "
*Thump!*
The man froze in the middle of his sentence, realizing he was enveloped in a warm hug; the feeling of being enveloped in the warm embrace gave him a sense of comfort and security.
'I wonder if this is what having a mother to care for you feels like.'
"You are not broken, you hear me." Softly she whispered in his ears while caressing his back. Without him even realizing it, a lone tear streamed down his face as he took the time to realize that this was not some kind of illusion.
He did not even have the time to realize that he was in the embrace of a woman he had a crush on; all he could think about was the fact that there was someone right there for him to comfort him. Something he never had after he left the orphanage and the place he made for all the mothers who were abandoned or did not have anyone to rely on.
"I am not saying there is nothing wrong with not feeling anything for the people you had a deep bond with." Moved back, breaking their hug, much to the boy's reluctance. She said softly, "It could either be because of the fact that you still could not get along with the news of their demise or maybe you were never as close as you thought you were."
"How do you know that?" Still having some doubts in his heart, he asked her.
"I know because you care enough to think about it. If you were indifferent to these feelings, you would not even take a second to consider these things, and believe me when I say there are many bad beings out there and do not even come closer to being in the middle of the list."
Hearing her words, a genuine smile appeared on his face.
"Enough of these depressing topics, you owe me a name." He got up to shake the feeling of exhaustion after talking about something so serious like that with her. He immediately changed the topic, looking at her with a smile on her face. "Do You have a name for me? I have been without a name for far too long I guess."
"In fact, I have a perfect name for you." Seeing the expectant look on her face, she chuckled before standing up as well. "I came up with it after some thinking and careful consideration. From now on, your name is— "
*Woosh*
