Chapter 474 Traits

"What's happening?! Did the kid already die?!"

"S-Sir Belford."

"Gavin! What happened to the kid?! Is he dead already?!"

"N-No, sir Belford. In fact, the young challenger named Shye Crowley is doing great. He's currently trapped in the storage room fighting against what was originally more than 12,000 undead creatures, now th–"

"The creatures have killed the kid, is that what happened?!"

"S-SIR BELFORD!! PLEASE STOP SAYING SUCH OMINOUS THINGS!"

Hearing Department Head Director Belford Grant's constant pessimistic remarks, Logan, a senior officer, forgot his rank and lost control of his emotions, shouting at the highest-ranking person in his department.

"A-Ahh…p-please forgive me, s-sir Belford…'

"Hmm... No worries, I got lost in my pessimistic trance again. Good job stopping me, Senior Officer Logan. Now then, what happened to the kid? Is he de–...w-winning?"

"Y-Yes, Sir Belford. Currently, all five thousand zombie warriors have been wiped out along with 1,500 ghouls. Now, only around 6,000 monstrous creatures remain. However…"

"The kid's already dying, isn't he?!"

"SIR!!" The two officers exclaimed in unison.

"A-Apologies. Continue."

"P-Please look at the screen instead. The kid appears to have prepared thoroughly for the worst and has plenty of consumables, but the monstrous creatures rarely give him a moment to breathe, making it difficult for him even to use them!"

"I see…yet, this lad's eyes…there's not a hint of despair in them…HAHAHAHAHA! Indeed, A hero finally appeared in Valenzia!"

...Facing six thousand creatures and an additional two thousand familiars summoned by the Black Gargoyles, Shye panted in exhaustion, cursing inwardly.

'F*ck! I knew twelve-thousand was too much…but if I could only take consumables in peace…'

Shye tried his hardest, yet, the creatures and his luck only allowed him to take two stamina pills and one greater health potion.

The attacks of the monsters were somewhat manageable, however, the problem was that his stamina wouldn't hold up until the end.

He needed to find a reliable way to take some stamina pills, fast!

Unfortunately, things wouldn't always go one's way, and even with his high intelligence, he simply couldn't think with hundreds of ghouls attacking him almost simultaneously.

*HOWL!*

Using his [Fallen] skills for the third time, Shye flapped his wings, swiftly retrieving one stamina pill from the inventory and ingesting it.

This was the only moment he was sure he could use consumables.

There was only enough time for him to consume one item, though, as the ghouls were also adept at hunting down flying targets.

In just a split second, most of them were already climbing the rocky walls of the storage room, pouncing toward him right after he ingested the stamina pill.

*SPURT!*

Heads flew as Shye continuously slashed his greatswords, not noticing that the irises of his eyes were already turning red due to being exposed to excessive carnage.

Even his nose was already numb to the scent of black putrid blood.

'Come then! I'll kill all who dare move forward! Die! Die! Die!'

With replenished stamina, Shye bravely fought all who attacked him.

It didn't matter whether the attacker was a ghoul, a familiar, a black gargoyle, or a vampire.

Shye slaughtered all of them with eerily focused eyes.

It was as if all that mattered to him right now was to kill his enemies.

Shortly after, a notification appeared in front of him, snapping him out of his dangerous trance.

[Congratulations! You've unlocked [Traits]!]

[Congratulations! You've gained the trait: [Unfazed Heart]!]

[Congratulations! You've gained the trait: [Undead Slayer]!]

Shye had no time to check the [Traits] window, though, as he was still under attack from thousands of monstrous creatures.

Yet, he felt that somehow, it was easier for him to kill the undead.

Despite there being around hundreds attacking him at the same time, Shye was now having an easier time reacting to their attacks, allowing him to dodge them with unmatched precision.

In addition to this, he found that his attacks somehow cut through the undead way easier now, allowing him to keep his attacks compact.

As a result, he didn't have to spend as much stamina.

"S-S-Sir Belford… Can't we make an exception this time? This kid is just too talented for us to let this... this nonsense go on!"

"I-I agree, Sir Belford! This youngster is the finest Valenzia has ever produced, and I assure you, he just found himself in this unfortunate situation! It wasn't his fault at all!"

Hearing the words of his underlings, Belford was tempted to take action.

However, as a director, he felt that doing so would make other heroes look down on Shye, and as someone from Valenzia himself, he couldn't allow such a thing to happen.

"No. We, the WAA, shall not give any exceptions to anyone. If Shye Crowley wants to become a hero and obtain a hero's crest, then he would have to survive this ordeal."

Belford's words made Logan and Gavin a bit sad.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

However, what could they do? Belford was the Head Director of the Valenzia Department, and it would indeed be a bit unfair to those who attempted the challenge in the past and lost their lives in the process should Shye be given some leeway.

Hence, the two officers stopped hoping for miracles from the association, instead waiting for one from Shye himself.

Astonishingly, they immediately got what they wanted as upon shifting their focus back to the holographic screen, they saw Shye slaughtering the monstrous creatures with even more finesse—to the point where apathy could almost be seen in his eyes.

Even Belford had his mouth agape the whole time as Shye whittled the numbers of the monstrous creatures down from the initial more than 12,000 to around 4,500.

It was a massacre.

And everything happened within the span of a few hours.

Inevitably, though, Shye felt exhaustion, this time, of the mind.

Despite his rather stable stamina, Shye was tired of endless killing.

He wished for this to end.

However, the only way for it to end was for him to kill all of the monstrous creatures, or at least make them retreat.

Unfortunately, a slight slip of concentration gave the black wolf-like humanoid creature ample time to ambush him.

Pouncing viciously from behind a dying Gargoyle, the creature clawed at Shye's neck, aiming to decapitate him in one blow.

Shye sensed the danger, but, not on time.

*SPURT!*
