Chapter 552: 551 Ranran, I need you.
Chapter 552: 551 Ranran, I need you.
Mo Xiuchen was gently wiping away her tears as he spoke softly to her, “If our meeting, knowing, and loving each other is the arrangement of fate, something that no one can break apart, then I believe that every hardship is just a test to our love.”
“Ranran, you are so strong. You’ve been accepting treatments optimistically by yourself, you can do the same with me by your side too, right?”
Mo Xiuchen’s voice was gentle yet sad.
“I don’t need you to accompany me,”
Wen Ran’s voice choked with sorrow.
Her tears simply could not be wiped away, they only seemed to increase with each attempt.
Hiding the pain in his eyes, Mo Xiuchen spoke in a deep and gentle voice, “Ranran, it’s me who needs you.”
It was not her who needed him but him who needed her.
He loved her and couldn’t afford to lose her. He had thought about the worst outcome. If there came a day when she had to leave him, he would be right there with her.
He would never leave her alone.
Wen Ran looked up, tears streaming down her face. Illuminated by the car’s interior light, she gazed at him with mournful eyes. After a long while, she said softly, “Mo Xiuchen, can you please not pressure me?”
Mo Xiuchen’s tall figure suddenly quivered.
The hand he was using to wipe away her tears froze on her face. The pain concealed within him surfaced uncontrollably on his handsome face as a result of her words.
Wen Ran tightly pursed her lips, she tried to calm down the surging emotions inside her briefly, reached out, and removed his hand from her face. With eyes filled with tears, she stared at him and said in a chilling yet firm voice:
“Since you already know everything, why don’t we just be open about it?”
“Ranran!”
Mo Xiuchen interrupted her with a deep voice. His handsome features were tensed as he fixed his gaze on her.
He could hear a note of finality in her words, similar to when she had mentioned the divorce to him last time.
Wen Ran managed to force a smile. Her smiling figure appeared so pitiful under the dim light, making the viewer’s heartache. Mo Xiuchen’s heart seemed to constrict as he saw her smile.
“Mo Xiuchen, if you refuse to divorce, we should temporarily part ways.”
“I disagree!”
Mo Xiuchen’s voice was firm but betrayed his pain.
Temporary separation? He would not believe it to be temporary. Once they parted, it might be a farewell forever. A few days ago, Gu Kai said that not seeing him would avoid stress for her and would, therefore, favor her treatment.
At the time, he had somewhat believed it.
But those days of being together had made it clear to him that Wen Ran was only happy when she was with him.
Despite her wish to leave, she was happy when they were together. The happiness in those smiles of her, he understood more than anyone else.
A glossy tear made its way down her cheek, she didn’t wipe it off; instead, she let her sorrow and sadness present themselves before him. Her voice choked up, but her words were clear, “Mo Xiuchen, if you love me, then you must promise what I’m asking of you.”
Mo Xiuchen’s eyebrows furrowed even more on his handsome face, manifesting a serious expression. What kind of reasoning was this? If he loved her, then he was bound to promise what she asked?
“I have to leave if, one day, I am fully well, I will come back to you.”
“What do you take me for?”
Mo Xiuchen asked in pain. Was it that he could only enjoy a good time with her and not face the hardships? Could it be that just she could accompany him and he could not accompany her during her illness?
Could it be that Mo Xiuchen was heartless, easily abandoning the woman he loved?
He was angry!
Wen Ran felt unbearable pain, her breath stuck in her throat. Watching his angry face, she shook her head sorrowfully, uttering the words she had held back for days: “Mo Xiuchen, you are the one I love. I love you more than I love myself. Because of that, I can’t stay by your side. Besides not wanting to hurt you, I also can’t bear for you to see the changes that might happen to me. If… If I don’t recover, I’ll forget everything, including…”
Tears fell into her mouth from the corners of her lips, spreading a bitter taste on her tongue mixed with a hint of saltiness. Wen Ran took a deep breath before she continued, “including you… and myself!”
What she feared the most was her seemingly inevitable future, where she would forget him.
What she couldn’t accept more was that despite that day coming, he would still stay by her side, looking after a her that couldn’t remember him. How cruel that would be for him.
Mo Xiuchen pulled her into his embrace, pressing her tear-streaked face against his chest. Repeatedly stroking her hair, his voice resonated above her head, “Ranran, no matter what you become or whether you forget me, all I know is that I love you.”
“But I care!”
A sobbing sound emerged from his chest.
Wen Ran struggled to escape from his embrace, trying to express how much she cared.
Recently, she found her memory to be declining. She hadn’t told anyone about it. There were moments where she had forgotten things she had done, so she became exceptionally careful.
Especially these past two days when they were together, and working in the same office, she was afraid that he would notice.
He had claimed to know everything, but only she and Fu Jingyi, the one who had done this to her, knew everything.
Even her father and brother only suspected a bit. She had concealed part of the truth when they asked her about it later.
That was, without relying on a man to expel the poison within her, the awakened poison would rapidly spread throughout her body…
Throughout the days when she was not with Mo Xiuchen, besides her memory, her body was particularly susceptible to fatigue.
She didn’t know what other symptoms she would develop or dare to envision what she might become. She was caught in a dilemma, wanting to spend more time with him, even if it was just a day, an hour, or even a minute longer…
Yet, she also wanted to leave right away, fearing he might discover her condition.
“Ranran!”
Mo Xiuchen cried out in pain, pulling her out of his embrace and lifting her face, “Ranran, Ranran…”
He kept repeating her name, as though this could help alleviate the pain in his heart.
Wen Ran’s tears were falling like rain. Each time he called out to her, her heart ached more. It felt as though someone was slashing her heart with a knife, causing her a chestful of pain that choked her breath.
