American Tax Officer

Chapter 178: Chapter 133: Arms Case Resolved, Euphoria in the Big City District_2

When David and his team arrived, they found that there were about dozens of workers loading and unloading several trucks.

Driven by curiosity, Bucky stepped forward and tore open the packing film of one cargo, and after finding that it indeed contained some equipment, he seemed a bit disappointed.

Just then, a manager wearing a safety helmet approached and rebuked, "What are you doing, tearing our packaging like this?"

Nisen took out his tax badge and said, "National Tax Bureau, we're here to see your boss, Mr. Gabourey!"

Upon hearing it was the National Tax Bureau, the manager was startled and then replied, "Mr. Gabourey is not here."

David responded, "Then who is in charge here right now?"

"Mr. Kane is here," came the reply.

"Kane? Alright, then notify him for us, say we want to have a talk."

David had met Kane previously in the Indian Reservation and knew that he was the second in command of the group.

In a deep part of the warehouse, inside an office.

Kane was intently reviewing a list of purchase requests when a knock on the door sounded, and he quickly said, "Come in."

The next second, the warehouse manager wearing a safety helmet came in and said, "Mr. Kane, the people from the National Tax Bureau are here, they want to see you."

"The National Tax Bureau?"

Kane blinked in surprise but quickly regained his composure.

Audit visits from the National Tax Bureau weren't new; probably just another routine inspection!

With this thought, he said, "Bring them over!"

"Alright."

A few minutes later, the office door was knocked again, and the manager brought David and his two companions inside.

Kane stood up, about to say something, but when he saw David's face, his pupils constricted sharply.

At the entrance of the Indian Tribe, he had encountered David, but since he didn't recognize him at the time, he thought nothing of it.

It was only after seeing the news about the National Tax Bureau's armed raid on the Reservation did he truly recognize David and realize that the Chief Tax Officer was not someone to be trifled with.

"Mr. Kane, what's the matter, surprised to see me?"

David's voice snapped the startled Kane back to reality.

He tried to act normal and replied, "Quite a surprise indeed, considering your jurisdiction is in the Lake District, Director David, what brings you to Main Street?"

"My jurisdiction is indeed in the Lake District, but I was asked by the Main Street division to handle some cases, which is why I crossed over."

Hearing that David was invited by the Main Street division, Kane felt a bad premonition.

They had been investigated many times by Main Street, but had always managed to defuse the situation.

But he hadn't expected them to be persistent enough to invite David over, which spelled trouble...

"I want to see your brother, Mr. Gabourey, let him come over for a talk!"

Kane's brow furrowed slightly, and he replied, "My brother is tied up with important matters, anything you need you can tell me, I can make decisions for everything here!"

David looked straight at him and said, in a tone that brooked no refusal, "No, you can't make the decisions, and as I said, I want to talk to Mr. Gabourey."

Fuming inside, Kane felt David's words to be an insult, but remembering the ruthlessness of David leading the armed forces into the Indian Reservation, he ultimately didn't dare to argue further and picked up his phone to dial a number.

About half an hour later.

A man who looked somewhat like Kane but possessed a more steady demeanor walked in; he was Gabourey.

First, he came up to David, smiled, and extended his hand, "Chief Tax Officer David, I've heard much about you!"

"The same goes for me, Mr. Gabourey, I have likewise heard of your reputation!"

[Name: Gaboures Darnel.]

[Occupation: Arms Dealer.]

[Income: Sixteen million five hundred thousand US dollars.]

[Income Details: On December 7th, provided a batch of arms to the Mexico Gang, earning a profit of eight hundred thousand US dollars, on December 19th, supplied a batch of arms to the Main Street Mafia, earning Six Hundred Thousand US dollars, on December 28th, provided a batch of arms to an African Gang Leader, earning a profit of one million...]

[More Details:...]

[Tax owed: Six million one hundred seventy-seven thousand six hundred US dollars]

As they shook hands, David was examining the man's information.

When he saw that this fellow's income was over fifteen million dollars, David was mildly astonished.

Initially, the results from Keanu's investigation indicated that Gabourey was earning around four million dollars a month.

But now, with a look through "the golden finger," it wasn't anywhere close to four million; it was nearly four times that!

However, upon further consideration, this seemed reasonable.

First, it's been almost two months since the passage of the Black Tax bill; sixteen million five hundred thousand dollars meant Gabourey was making about seven million three hundred thousand dollars a month, which is just over three million more than the estimated four million.

Considering Zimmerman was earning over fourteen million and they were both in the lucratively profitable arms business, it was actually quite normal for Gabourey to have this income!

"Chief Tax Officer David, the tax affairs of my warehouse are handled by a team of lawyers and accountants, there shouldn't be any problems. May I ask the purpose of your visit today...?"

After the introductions, Gabourey cut straight to the chase.

"The purpose of the National Tax Bureau, of course, is to collect taxes, Mr. Gabourey, we are all intelligent people, I won't beat around the bush. We know what you are involved in, so just pay the taxes you owe, and we promise we'll turn around and leave without further hassle. Your business can continue to operate smoothly. How does that sound?"
