The Assassin's Enemy Lover

Chapter 129

129 Future Marshal..... not present

Yi Chen could count on one hand the number of times he had stood up against his father. It was no less than three times and each time it wasn’t anything related to personal matters. Rather it was about training and Yi Feng.

But today he actually went against his father and it was all because of a personal matter. Each time he recalled the extreme anger and resentment in Zi Xingxi’s eyes he couldn’t be at ease.

For the first time, he was curious about something that had nothing to do with himself. He knew that the Bloodgarde and the Marshal had strong ties before but ever since the last of the royal family died something changed.

The Bloodgarde severed ties with the military and went rogue. This was only on the surface because his father still sought out Zi Xingxi’s help despite their terrible relationship.

Sometimes his father even blackmailed Zi Xingxi to get the Bloodgarde’s help and each time she never refused. It seemed his father had some black material on Zi Xingxi otherwise why would she agree.

Yi Chen never thought deeply into this matter but after what he had been through today he couldn’t help it.

As he sat in the medical bay his thoughts running wild like a runaway train the door slid open and the person he was thinking of entered. His father was dressed in a blue uniform with his back as straight as a bamboo pole stemming from the ground.

He had on a calm expression but in his eyes, there were traces of concern. He was really worried for his son that was why he rushed over despite having a lot of things on his plate.

The public was panicked and the death toll was uncertain. What made it worse was that the prime ministers were trying to blame this whole thing on him. He indeed had a lot to deal with but he wouldn’t be reassured unless if he saw his son in person.

.....

“You are dismissed,” he said to his subordinates and the group scurried out of the medical bay. As the door slid shut Marshal Yi strode over with his formal shoes making a light tapping sound with each step he took.

He raised his hand and lifted Yi Chen’s chin to take a good look at his face. His nose was red but apart from a little swelling there was nothing else. The wound on the back of his shoulder had already closed and was healing well.

Marshal Yi heaved a sigh of relief. They had informed him that his wounds weren’t serious but he was still so worried. He had to see his son in person otherwise he wouldn’t be able to think straight.

“Did you see anything that could help us solve this?” he asked after a short silence. He could sense his son wasn’t in a good space thus he kept his words at a minimum.

Yi Chen lowered his head and replied, “I recorded everything I saw in the report,” in a voice much colder than usual.

Marshal Yi’s brow furrowed as a sharp pain drove straight into the pit of his stomach. He knew Yi Chen was upset about something but he didn’t think it was directed toward him. Now that Yi Chen had spoken he could hear from his voice that whatever he was upset about had something to do with him.

“Do you want to tell me what you are upset about?” asked Marshal Yi as he sat down on the only available seat in the medical bay, “you have the same face on like the time I took away your first mech for repair.”

Yi Chen scratched his brow struggling to hold back but in the end, he failed miserably. “I had a slight conflict with Zi Xingxi today,” he said as he raised his head to judge his father’s reaction but he remained impassive as though waiting for him to finish speaking.

Marshal Yi already heard about their disagreement though no one could tell him why there was a conflict in the first place. Now it seemed she had said something that poked at Yi Chen’s nerves.

“I don’t care much about what she was angry about... What bothers me is the hatred and anger she harbors toward me. I know sure as hell that I didn’t do anything that could warrant such hatred hence it has something to do with you.....,” he said his tone sounding accusatory the more he spoke.

He was well aware of Zi Xingxi’s influence on Zi Han and feared that this relationship might not even happen because of that. As this involved his future happiness he set blood relations aside and questioned his father.

“That kind of deep unprovoked abhorrence that comes from the soul can’t have something to do with me...,” he continued only for his father to ask,

“So?.....,” his brows knitted together.

Yi Chen who hadn’t expected such a response looked at his father feeling stifled. The two stared at each other for a second with fierce sparks flying between them. Neither of them was willing to concede.

It was Marshal Yi who spoke first. “This has absolutely nothing to do with you. You don’t have to worry about such things,” said the Marshal his voice getting softer towards the end of his latter sentence.

He really didn’t want to fight with his son over such a matter but Yi Chen wasn’t going to let this slide. He wanted to know the truth thus he said, “As the future Marshal of Onyx federation I need to know. How will I deal with the situation accordingly in the future when I have insufficient information?”

His stubborn words finally broke the Marshal’s resolve. Angered he yelled, “Yi Chen! How dare you question your superior?!.... Your answer is the word future, future Marshal..... not present,” with his chest rising and falling rapidly. Seething in anger he turned on his heel and walked out.

Yi Chen unclenched his fist as he watched his father’s figure disappear. He leaned his head back as he closed his eyes and exhaled deeply.

If his father wasn’t going to tell him about it then he would find other means. When he opened his eyes again the dark turbulence in his pupils had vanished replaced with a serene calmness like he had a sound mind.

Yi Chen tapped his light brain and soon a large floating screen appeared in front of him with Li Ran’s enlarged face right in front of him.

Li Ran was standing in front of a mirror wearing a pleated mid-length skirt over his pants with a scowl on his face. He didn’t seem to like what he was seeing and was trying to convince himself that he looked great.
